Homo Jocko by Devo

A completely random video that has NOTHING to do with my bellow post, except that I've recently been getting into Devo and some 80s New Wave and underground music. Its all fun biggrin

Tonight is a Marquette night, the type I used to experience all too frequently back in my college days. Its after 1 o'clock and I'm terribly restless; a heavy summer air is hanging over the city of Fargo, my friends are all out doing their own thing (One is spending the night with his special lady friend, and another is hanging out with some Hippi friends of ours.) and so I've been left to my own devises for the night.
Ah, does this bring back memories. I remember when this used to plague me a few years back, and the easiest solution was to jump into the car and take an hour long drive out into the country. I'd simply throw some tunes onto the radio, roll the windows down, and let the night air purify me as I drove. If I was lucky, I'd give one of my friends a call and see if they wanted to come along; we were all insomniacs back in those days (Oddly enough, I, apparently, still am. I'd been having the worst trouble sleeping since summer started; a fact which I blame largely on the heat, and my apartment building's faulty air conditioning).
Sadly, with the price of gas being what it is these days, I doubt that my old medication simply isn't all that feasible anymore. I might be able to trick myself into a late night trip to Wal-Mart for groceries yet, but thats assuming that my restless nature is able to overcome my dislike of that company (they pissed me off a few weeks ago when I went to buy a CD and remembered, too late, that they only sell edited versions of music. WalMart: We have no problem with child labor, or not paying our employees a living wage. But Potty Language? Thats where we draw the line! )

The Summer has been a good one so far. I've managed to make two good friends in my building over the past few months. Both are a few years younger than me, a fact which I originally felt awkward about but have since gotten over, and live upstairs from my room. We've spent most of the past few months watching movies, being addicted to the Venture Brothers, and going out to parties. I seriously have not partied this much since I lived in Ireland and I've been enjoying every minute of it.
Best about all of this, is that I've come into contact again with people my own age (Well, we're all in our 20s, that ain't bad, right!? ) and have come to realize that my social skills hadn't atrophied all that much during my two years in Alaska. People generally seem to like me where ever I go, and I might even becoming, dare I say it, somewhat popular (eeeeeeeeek!) The funny thing is, is that even back during my under grad years, I was never a huge party goer; most of the time I'd just get together with a small group of friends, play cards, and drink. Being around a larger group of people is actually fun and interesting.
Personally, I'm just trying to get some pent up wildness out. Next semester is going to be rough on me; I'm presented three papers at two different conferences, having to retake the dreaded Methodology class, am TAing for the new Professor in the department, and also am trying to find ways to get to two of my best friends' weddings which are a month apart, one being in October in DC and the second taking place in Detroit sometime in November.
In other words, I'm going to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off for the next few months, and may have very little time to get out, so I might as well get it out of my system while I can (this is the argument I give me Mother, who seems to believe I should have settled down a long time ago. My Father, more understanding of the matter, has given me his blessing wink ). I hope it'll work, although a night like tonight makes me wonder; I go a night without anything to do, and I'm practically bouncing off the walls.

One final bit of news: I got tickets to go to "The Dark Knight" tomorrow at Midnight. WOOOOOO; I'm super excited, this movie is going to kick ass.

I am pretty comfortable with choosing German movies over that one.

lOl, I actually put in Americana about three years ago when painting my basement, and listened to it all the way through twice!

That's really funny that you said that.

Glad you like the live White Stripes I sent you.smile

My stepdaughter's not coming to visit. What youmissed was that a week and a half or so ago I had to sell my amp (and subsequently lose my job) to fly up to Ohio when she went inot a post-op coma. I've been staying with my ex-wife, ex-mother-in-law, and younger stepdaughter in my older stepdaughter's place while she was in the hospital. She's home now, and we're leaving tomorrow. I've had no minutes on my cell, so I'm going back home unable to renew my phone account (the fact I had no phone was why I lost my job in the first place - my boss thought I just wasn't answering and hired my replacement), hoping there's some food left, and praying I can either get my job back or else have Jodie Foster leave her gilfriend and just fuck me to death. Either would be just fine.tongue

I can't make money playing, since I sold my Marshall for airfare and the 14 shows I've played this year were either memorials for people who've died or, as to the majority of them, benefits to raise money for people in need.

Now I don't even know how I'm going to feed and shelter my 82-year old ill-healthed mother.

But I'll get through. I always do. Many times (the day I was born for one) I lived when there was no Earthly reason I should have.

I've never flund any purpose to my Life, and yet, I've been expected to die at least 8 times in my Life, and have ACTUally died twice and been revived. To what end is well beyond me. I've yet to accomplish anything worthwhile.

Anyway, the kid (actually in her 20s) will be fine, and my ex-mom-in-law will drive me home, and I've had a friedn in Florida looking after Mom while I'm gone. Her faculties are even more rapidly diminshing, but she's physically stable.

Oh, and a friend of mine in NJ had a boy, then twin boys, then got pregnant with twin boys again but lost one, all natural childbirth (no Caesarians) and swears she'd do it all again rather than have another kidney stone. She has also had gout like me and a multi-year abscessed tooth, and would choose birthing large twin boys over ANY of them.

I'm not sure I agree fully, though. I've had a case of gout I think was worse once - longer-lasting, anyway and more unrelenting) and I had an abscessed tooth that the dentist I saw thought should have killed me or at least put me in a coma, after he saw the x-rays he took after I walked in there. Of course he shot me in the ass with a double dose of Bi-cillin and sent me to a surgeon for immediate surgery, who shot me with morphine and took 45 minutes with a needlenose pliers kinda thing to crush and remove toothroot, as the root had grown like a horseshoe under and around the abscess. It's hard to think of anything worse than what I recently fet, but I think that abscess was the worst physical pain I ever endured. I was LITERALLY blinded by it, and saw stars for hours going to the dentist, then the surgeon. I'd lost a filling in the molar in 1983 and after 2 weeks it had stopped hurting and I thought the nerve endings were dead. Then in 1995, 12 years later!!!!!, the root had grownd around the abscess like an inverted horseshoe and I NEVER EVER EVER EVER want to go through that again. Ever. Uh-uh. No sir, I didn't like it.

But this was pretty fucking bad. blackeyed

I enjoy your posts in the Liberal Politics group. You are very well informed and quite level-headed.

Thanks for your comments. The level of a person's Liberalism is interpreted differently depending on the part of the country you're dealing with. In North Dakota, your views may seem more liberal than they would be in New York City. However, that doesn't change the fact that your approach to the issues you comment on are sensible and rational. I don't see how that can be a negative.

Just thought of asking you the following, since you're living in North Dakota. How does such a conservative state have two great Democratric senators like Dorgan and Conrad? That's always seemed like a paradox to me.

Your thoughts, please.

I hope so too. Up until an hour ago it was gloom and doom, but now it's looking pretty good.

And, as for the board stuff....well you just seem to generally make sense, be fair, and make people giggle along the way.

Have always loved that Devo vid, and Devo in general, and the "1984" reference, and the book, and...and...

Making two good friends in your building sounds pretty ideal. When envisioning the "Things I'd do if I struck it rich" scenario I always imagine having a Utopian community where all my friends could live closeby and we could hang out as much as we wanted.

This is true. WIth age one does learn not to sweat the small stuff so much. (Hopefully) How does it feel to be the voice of reason....the old sage?

There is some excellent music which comes out from around here. I am not so hip to the scenes, eventhough I do enjoy what friends turn me on to. I'm not hip in general. Even using the word hip would support this fact.

It's good that you've got that teaching spirit in you. Of course, part of good teaching is learning when to step back like you're doing. Hope the friends are able to work through there squabbles. I'm generally one of those people who gets put in the middle to smooth things out. Have been that way my whole life, even on the playground. tongue

I love me old school country. Have a lot of good childhood family memories surrounding it. You know, dancing on my dads feet sort of memories. Glad you did not bend and cut those locks.

Excuse me. One of my local SG friends is having some difficulty. We've had a shortage of gas here despite contrary media reports. You know how that goes. I need to strategize with her about locating some at this late hour.

Never read "The Big Sleep" but have seen and loved the movie.

The storm's getting close. We'll see. It's tonight through tomorrow lunchtime we need to worry about. I'm inland and in west Houston so it should be alright. May lose power and get blown around a little but not likely to flood.
