Life is capital R-idiculous.
I had 5 finals in December DURING xmas family visiting and unpacking and painting and attempting to conserve small fractions of a social life; OH and meeting one of my favourite authors: Douglas Coupland!!!! He is amazing.

But in January, my GPA soared and I was asked to read my children's picture book manuscript at a writer's event; I also won an award for being the top-rated english student for 2009, officially declared my major, switched my minor (I realized how impossible French is), resolved to send off my manuscripts to as many publishers as possible during 2010, STILL working on my condo (which I've realized is going to be an endless work-in-progress), created a full DVD with menus and movie poster and credits and stuff for a filming of a play I was in (just some little project for a class last semester) in the non-existant spare time I delude myself into thinking I have (but I was 'God' in the play, so I thought I could handle it), and started hanging with a small group of lit-geeks, getting together once a week to watch historical films (fiction induced or not) and then spend the evening discussing their facts and flaws.
Now it's February. I have a few essays to write within the next 5 days or so, I am actually posting this while taking a break from one of them. The Olympics will be here in a week!!!! University is closed during the full two weeks so I get a chance to catch up on my hobbies (such as this place). I also bought a dress form recently, and will be trying my hand at making reproduction renaissance gowns with my lit-geek friends.
GEEZ.
so. how is everyone?

Okkkayyy! So we move in this saturday! Got the keys last night! now for paint paint paint! I've started an interior design blog too...so many obsessions I get....so little time.
It's a mad mad mad mad world.....
Chernobyl....

It is a land where even after 23 years nothing lives long, even many miles away from ground zero. Estimates are that agriculture is not possible for at least 200 years, and the radiation deposited there won't be at fully safe levels for another 20,000. Recently, some have moved back. There are less than 10,000 people living somewhat in the vicinity of Chernobyl, but they are ALL elderly who where there at the time of the disaster and are between the ages of 60 to 90 with higher than average exposure levels already. Their younger family members are allowed to visit them, but only for short periods of time.
Apparently, the G7 and UN are planning to pool resources to dump a massive amount of lead and concrete on ground zero, in case radiation is still seeping out and contaminating the land further.
It is devastating, disastrous, dangerous...and eerily breathtaking.
I know I have an obsession with the post-apocalyptic that can venture into a little obsessive...so I'm sorry if my randomness here disturbs anyone.

Doesn't it just fascinate and terrify you?
Also....
Well, more than a week since my last blog. That's a record since starting my account, I think. Every spare hour that I'm not in class I am out looking at condos or online researching condos. We have put an offer on a place but are still looking and there are two others I'm extremely excited about (one needs work...and for some reason, this excites me more).
I now drool over new condo ads beyond any appropriate levels. Someone intelligent on this site said recently that looking at listings is like "real estate pornography". I totally get it.
On the weekend we drove by a flooring store and I shrieked in excitement to see a 'SALE on hardwood' sign out front. Then my other half shrieked even more when he saw that they also sold granite countertops. Does this classify me as officially in the realm of the aged? Am I now an adult because I am shopping for tiles and crown moulding?
So let me ask you:
1. What, to you, constitutes being a full adult? (i.e. not living with parents anymore, not employed at a place that requires a hair net, etc)
2. Do you feel you are a full adult? Why?
3. What, if anything, is missing from your life right now that would make things seem more complete (money, although always wanted, cannot be the answer in this case)?
Thanks in advance for the insight.

Well, it's officially over. Summer is gone.
Back to school for me. Classes start tomorrow (technically today), well...just one. I am excited cos I'll finally be taking the last creative writing class I've been wanting to take for some time (already taken all the others): Children's Literature!
I am so stoked.
Goodbye to the beautiful sunsets on the beach:

and hello to the next 8 months straigh of rain. You know, I start by wanting to complain, but then I find I actually rather like all the rain we get here in Vancouver. It's really refreshing and somehow soothing for the soul. I want to go for walks in my gumboots and pea coat. I want to get my hair soaked and then grab a hot chocolate! I am really excited for the season to change....
The house (well, condo) search is on hold until thursday, but I'm hoping we find it then. And hopefully it's vacant so we can move in a month!
Well, I spose that's it for updates.
Oh, I linked my wishlist to that amazon thing that everyone uses. If anyone out here in the SG void wishes to send me something pretty to wear in my pics...they can clickity-click!
I will mail a few pretty prints (some not uploaded here) to whomever does if you wish!

oh, and i'll add this to round out tonight's blog:
So far house hunting has come up with a couple of "almost"s but no "OMFG YES. ITS MINE"s.
the search continues.
in the mean time, i have gummy worms and root beer and chores to do.
here are a few shots i took, starting to sort of understand how to use this camera:

I really do love my country....
Canadian Globe and Mail report on Zombie Threat
Pop quiz, hot shots: Do YOU have a zombie survival plan? If so, what is it?
My plan is to "happen to" be on my mum's boat at the time of outbreak, then pull anchor and move away from the shores along the pacific northwest with my mum, fiance, and sister. Live off fish, seaweed, crab. Water purification system for rainwater and saltwater when needed. May have to go ashore on a small SMALL island to gather dirt and wood (to make charcoal) for the purification system. Of course, this all rests on being on the boat. I've come to the realization that if I were to be home at the time, I'd be dead within days because I live in such a highly populated area in a crappy apartment building where most of the tenants look like zombies as it is.
