Hello all

Well I lucked out a little bit and my company sent me to Detroit for a few days to do a conference. It was full of the scummiest people imaginable, pharmaceutical sales reps. These are the folks who go to doctors offices and attempt to get them to prescribe particular medicines. The one bright spot was when the guy who was to teach them about selling Levitra ( hard on medicine like viagra ) turned out to be named, and you can't make this stuff up, JOHN HOLMES!

Anyhow I am back from Detroit, my power has been restored and things are beginning t thaw out here. Hope all survived as best they could and that this is the end of winter nastiness for us all.

What I liked about the movie is how real it was. Life is hard enough when you grow up here in the 'states where things are (relatively) sane. But growing up in the slums of Mumbai? Having your mother killed by a Hindu mob (which really happens there)? Living in a dump? Being kidnaped by beggar kings?

Andrea and I went to India a couple of years ago, and watching Slumdog Millionaire felt like being back there. I don't know how someone who hasn't been to India would see it - it might seem fake, or extreme, or exaggerated, but it's none of these. If anything, it makes India look much less harsh than it really is. So I can't blame you for not liking the movie, but I absolutely loved it. India really messes with your head.
