Had a great time in Bangkok. The heat was insufferable, but everything else was beyond belief. If you have the chance, try the Shambala Boutique Hostel. Very comfortable, friendly, and affordable.

TANSTAAFL
(There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch)
(in Russian accent):
"Thing that got me was not her list of things she hated, since she was obviously crazy as a Cyborg, but fact that always somebody agreed with her prohibitions. Must be a yearning deep in human heart to stop other people from doing as they please. Rules, laws_ always for other fellow. A murky part of us, something we had before we came down out of trees, and failed to shuck when we stood up. Because not one of those people said: "Please pass this so that I won't be able to do something I know I should stop." Nyet, tovarishchee, was always something they hated to see neighbors doing. Stop them "for their own good"_not because speaker claimed to be harmed by it."
"I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

Watching the World Cup final match this afternoon. I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it's because the announcers claim the game is being broadcast to over a billion viewers worldwide. A BILLION viewers!!!
I'm not really sure who to root for. I don't know anything about either team, so all I have to go with are the countries they represent...
**Italy**
Every player's name ends with a vowel
Beautiful country
Great coffee and wine
Fellini
**France**
Most of the players seem to hail from former French colonies
(I didn't even know France was a soccer powerhouse??)
Beautiful country
Great coffee and wine
Truffaut
I must be a typical American...I don't see the appeal of watching a ball being kicked around a field for 90 minutes.

So...
I was having dinner with a friend the other night...I'm not sure if could be desribed as a "date" or not...sigh
So into the restaurant walks Missy (the co-founder of SG) and several SG's themselves. It really rocked my world
...my first instinct was to walk up (not in a creepy way, mind you) and introduce myself as a fan and three-year member.
But then reality set in. I would have had to explain who they were, and that really wasn't a subject I wanted to broach. Is SG a "porn" site or just a way to meet other people. Or both? Regardless, it didn't seem like the right thing to do at the time.
Oh well.

What gorgeous weather this afternoon! So gorgeous, in fact, that I decided to take the afternoon off. I've lived in this neighborhood now for almost three months, and there are so many pretty little side streets and boulevards that normally go unseen because of the daily routine. So...I decided to just wander around this afternoon. Wandering can be good for the soul...
Have a new trip planned...going to try for Italy in late summer. If I can only afford it...
