1. Why I (re)joined suicide girls?
This girl--Twwly and this one: Amina. Then there’s Anomalisa and Luscious and a bunch of others. I love their opinions as much as their images. I love sets that incorporate humour and artistry.
2. This whole member review thing; I’m less keen on. I love the idea of a site where women are in control of the way they are portrayed. Sure, the photographer takes the awesome pictures, but the women express their personalities...in a myriad of creative (very hot) ways.
3. Personally, I couldn’t give a flying rat’s wether “Paul” in “San Diego” isn’t too keen on, say, chicks with curves/shaved heads/missing limbs/[insert feature here]. I might like them. I’m not the majority, but last time I checked the site line was something about “celebrating alternative beauty” -- which by definition is something outside the mainstream. Surely by opening up which sets go live to a vote reduces the type of woman depicted as one that best fits the collective tastes of the majority of community members. While the type of people likely to join a site “celebrating alternative beauty/culture” would naturally tend to be left of centre, this system seems to encourage meeting “average” tastes rather than pushing boundaries. And that’s not very rock n’ roll.
4. But enough whingeing (as we say in Australia). On to positive things-- working on a series of paintings. Fun. I love working with oils, but I am a merciless critic of my own work and others. Zero tolerance for wankery---and this is art we’re talking about! My current awe is reserved for Keith Weesner. I really like his steam and highlights. He doesn’t hide his technique behind a smokescreen, I like honesty in art. Gauguin happens to be my Current God and I am somewhat tempted to make the schlep to Canberra for the Lautrec (sp?) exhibition. Oh and people who rave about Degas? Please stop. They were all really fucking talented OK? I plan to never work from a photograph again if I can help it. I mean, really, how can you say you’re “all about the nature of light” when you’re squinting at a reflective, flattened image.
5. My latest source of music is this place. Recent discoveries? Scott H. Biram, Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers, Heavy Trash...and it’s all freeeee.
6. My new secret boyfriend is John Spencer.
7. My legs are so hairy today. I wax my legs occasionally. Not particularly often though.
8. About to run off and watch Breaking Bad with someone awesome.
9. Fresh garlic is the best. I want to grow my own next year.
10. Got to practice zamp sometime soon. Why are people always asleep when I get the urge to practice? Guitar is much more forgiving.
Got a haircut + colour today.
