You forget that George Wallace admitted to being wrong about his racist positions and apologized often for them during the last 20 odd years of his life. His change of heart seeming was real. He unlike many who held power was willing to say he was wrong (Goldwater was another)
We will never hear from GW Bush et al about Iraq being a mistake.
Wow, what a trouncing for Mitt. Gingrich bested him by 12 pts! Now can he pull off a more astonishing upset in Florida?
I'm personally going to go with 'no' on that one. Despite the ranks closing, there are still enough horses in this race to steal thunder from one another. The gap certainly would have been wider between Romney and Gingrich if Santorum were out of the race, but he's not and so far hasn't signaled a withdrawal. I just wonder how long this battle between the heart and soul of the Republican party will persist before one side gives in or the party implodes. Whatever the case may be among the base though, their champion may not emerge for awhile, a predicament that I believe will cause them harm... Given enough time I think that these divisions could widen there could potentially be a some controversy among some delegates in the future.
I still think Mitt will be the eventual nominee, but he's definitely going to need to get dirty and fight if he wants to win it. Then again, perhaps I shouldn't underestimate the capability of a bunch of assholes to vote for an even bigger one.
