Sorry I took so long to reply; I'm not used to people takin' an interest...
I was thinking, when I checked out No Such Thing, that it had been literally years since I saw Trust and The Unbelievable Truth. I liked 'em a lot 5 years ago... I assume I still would.
I have a friend who hates Hartley. He said that he gave up on Flirt when he found out that it was "the same script three times" but I think that ignores the fact that it took that same script and gave it completely different stories three times. It wasnt' my FAVORITE Hartley but I liked it...
I thought Amateur was okay. The guy who gets electrocuted and goes crazy reminds me some of my brother...the only Hartley I haven't liked is that one... I can't even remember many details...it was the one with Martin Donovan...ha ha, just kiddin, but it was the one with "Kool Thing" by Sonic Youth in it. It just rubbed me the wrong way.
Henry Fool was good. No Such Thing has a similar feel...

Two good flicks I rented-- Italian For Beginners. I had seen some of it inthe theater, but Dogma 95 camerawork makes me seasick and I had to leave the theater. it's a good, simple, fairly realistic story; god knows why people bitch about it so much on Amazon. The camerawork isn't *fancy* enough for them...
Also, finally saw No Such Thing. Another winner for Hal Hartley, although I know a dude who hates Hal; thinks his films are too cutesy, to narrow it down to one word. I find his stuff clever, much preferable to the standard formulaic garbage out there. The film is a monster film, from the monster's point of view...oh, and the monster is a foul-mouthed alcoholic. My only gripe is-- if he's in Iceland why the American accent? But I think I have a reason figured out which would be a spoiler...
