as i sit here and mentally review the scifi movies of my childhood that dealt with the possible future and specific dates. moves such as Cyborg, Timecop, Terminator, Johnny Mnemonic, and Bladerunner to name a few. all the specified times and dates have come and gone and we are no where near any of the technological accomplishments featured in those movies. where is my cybernetic implants/prosthetics like those featured in Bladerunner and Johnny Mnemonic, or time machine from Timecop. where is my personal cyborg/android like those featured in Cyborg, or Bicentennial Man... but atleast we have cell phones, and microwave ovens thanks to Star Trek but no space ships or transporters. no genetic manipulation like that featured in Gattaca either. so i have to ask when did scientists and engineers quit looking to fiction for inspiration? im sure there are other movies that i have forgotten or neglected from this list for one reason or another. but the Mayans predict the world will end in a year or so. so i guess i need to start making preparations to become a lap dog, for the trans-dimensional, trans-gender, inter-galactic, mutant marsupial alligator people that will inevitably invade and conquer us at the end of 2012
