hello! i have wonderful news. A week from today I'll be heading to LA for the summer to assist Ackley and Milloux in shooting as well as spearheading a few new business opportunities! I've purchased my plane ticket already, but I'm going to need some spending money. Which is why,,,

i'm selling my 16 gig white iPad 2 with wifi- it's been barely used as I typically use my laptop. No scratches or damage, and I'm asking 350 or best offer.

zoom image

zoom image

I'm also selling my 27'' iMac desktop computer. I'm really sad to see this go because it essentially had all my screenwriting software on it, and I love this thing. But alas, until we start making some money from this business we're starting, I am willing to part with it. I am asking 2500, but like I said the best offer will take it. It's completely loaded with all the Adobe software, and even the latest version of Logic Pro.

No low ballers please!
You can either message me directly or at carrinavargas@gmail.com

PS- there are quite a bit of unseen photos, outtakes, and dare i say- questionable videos- from shoots- and my life- on the computer, so if you're a fan or something and you'd like to have those i'll be happy to keep them on.

Thank you loves! i appreciate all the help you've given me.

thank you in different languages: not with correct spelling but pronunciation: )

cantonese: doh je
thailand: kapunka
cambodia: ah khun

bangkok was rad.

no i didn't see a ping pong show....

but the guys on the street, every three or four of them make this popping sound with their mouth, followed by "PING PONG..." even to chicks! my friend rachel told me she saw one of the girls do a dart show, where i guess they throw a balloon up and well, you get the rest. i didn't wanna pay them my money, they seemed way sleezy and i guess it just seemed more appealing leaving it to movies and shit where stupid westerners go to thailand.

the beaches of thailand are beautiful. koh samui, koh chaing and koh larn are all amazing. the city of bangkok is huge and sprawling, and it's hard to explore everything and not get stuck on koh soan road, you may know it from that little leonardo dicaprio movie which popularized thailand.... well don't go there, go to one of the islands and experience real thailand sans hoards of pretentious backpackers. there's a stark contrast between the attitudes and sights of thai islands and bangkok. it almost bummed me out.

hong kong was wild, the city is all built on a hill and it reminds me of home in san francisco. they even have an escalator that rivals the subway as the preferred method of getting around- it goes throughout the city and up to the midlands in the hills, just a giant escalator that stops at various platforms where you can get off and explore. and nighttime people crowd around in the streets drinking and dancing and singing. everything is extremely expensive, comparable with new york- a pack of cigarettes was nine dollars, and i'm used to paying .75 cents in cambodia. you can see the difference though, with the lack of development but frugality (is that a word? ) of cambodia, then hong kong's developed yet affluent population with sky needles that climb into the clouds to the point where you can't see them anymore. it's a surreal place. that and walking into the park from the city. i guess that's also comparable to new york how central park just seems so out of place. i love all my new cantonese friends, and we shot some fun stuff there too.

i didn't think i'd say so, but landing back in cambodia was a relief with some minor travel bullshit setbacks as to be expected, i'm coming to realize. all i can say for now is that i'm okay with not getting on an airplane for at least another month. in the past month and a half or so i've been to korea, cambodia, hong kong (i hesitate to say china... you can see it from the bay but, it's a different world i hear) and thailand. it's nice to jump around, but getting back to my little apartment here in phnom penh was a relief.

next week i'll look for jobs teaching. i've been volunteering at the orphanage, which i plan to continue, but i need to also get a *paying* gig. the tattoos are a tiny bit of an issue, i've got to get real sharp to make an impression when i go for interviews and what not. i did however get a little gig at this cool bar by central market, they've revamped the whole upstairs into being this cute little lounge with a huge wrap around balcony that looks over the city. they want me to teach the barstaff english, and i've created a cocktail menu.. including a Khmer Thai .. ( in cambodia they don't speak cambodian, it's khmer, pronounced ka-mai.. get it?) and a Phnom Bomb, which is a spin off an irish car bomb, only with kahlua instead of baileys, cambodian whiskey and ABC stout beer. pretty snazzy huh? the place is also a dim sum house, the best dim sum i've had and trust me, back home with my chinese half of my family we'd frequent a ton of great little places in san francisco and the south bay... and i'm pretty picky when it comes to dim sum!

little comforts from home lately have been a big help. i went to the market with specific things in mind, and i came home with a few of them. namely kraft mac and cheese in a box, flaming hot cheetos (3.00 for a little teeny tiny bag, and they say "export" on them!) and blue kool-aid squeezy juices i used to drink as a kid. i almost opted for gatorade but the small bottles are about two dollars. unfortunately they don't have boxed wine, that i could find anyway, but i've discovered shoju, which they sell in little bottles for a 1.40. i refrigerate them and drink them with a straw so i've maintained my white trash nature.

anyway phnom penh is home for now, with the exception of a few things lined up that will require flights here and there, but nothing in the next month which is absolutely fine with me. the thought of another security checkpoint sends chills up my spine. the rain is still going, and going, and going, and i love it more than ever. you can tell when it's gonna rain, there's a smell to the air and it's not pra hok- fish paste- yuck- and clouds gather up above the city, and afterwards the air is so much cleaner. there's constant construction, seeing as how its a developing country and all, and with that comes constant dust in the air. it's nice after it rains, so i appreciate it for more reasons than 1. the power usually goes out, interrupting my 80s music video kicks- they always play george michael on the k-pop station- which is fine cause the lightning makes for a better show anyway.

until next time, love you all very much!

CAMBODIA IS CRAZY

i owe you guys a nice long update but im just so tired every single day

and i never thought id say it but i want mcdonalds breakfast... sausage biscuit, i miss you

monsoon season is approaching! it's been pouring like crazy and it comes so quickly, i enjoy the rain and i love the lightning storms. i will sit at my window and stare out and watch it like a movie sometimes.

i miss my family like crazy

i went to a place called chuck norris dim sum, they had a dumpling roulette... one of the dumplings was a wasabi pork dumpling.. i got it twice. and it wasnt that hot.

everyday eight hour days going through my teaching program, well worth it. teaching at an orphanage right now outside of town. the kids are amazing. i love them all so much and we have a ball every single day. it will never cease to amaze me how much people in this country smile. americans really don't smile that much. maybe i just have sad friends. these days im smiling more.

la la la what else, i shit my brains out for about a week. its fun acclimating to new species of bacteria! we went to a club in dt phnom penh, called heart of darkness.. i made lots of lady boy friends. we danced till 4 am. drank copious amounts of whiskey. i carried my friend to a Tuk Tuk. this was also preceded by a visit to happy herb pizza. and it's exactly what you think it is. theres actually another happy herb pizza down by the river front, only this one is SPECIFICALLY called "extra strong happy herb pizza"- i want to ask for a large pizza extra happy hold the pizza. the weed here is meh. at first it was total shit, now that i've found my favorite tuk tuk driver/ weed dealer it's gotten better. a bitch sketch, wouldn't wanna get caught with weed either. the weed is deifnitely not as good as back in the states. i think i'm spoiled being from california.

oh, i got robbed. was on a tuk tuk with my teacher and another student coming home from the orphanage, going through the city and a guy on a moto drove right past us, grabbed my ankle WHILE operating his moto single handedly, and reached in and grabbed my ferragamo bag like a goddamn ninja. yeah, i know what you're thinking, why would you carry around an expensive looking bag etc. i learned my lesson. i might get robbed again but next time they won't get shit from me. this time the guy got an iphone but the funny part is he'll probably throw out the bag and my wallet, a nice jimmy choo one, and keep the iPhone! oh well.

things are just things. i knew that before but now i have a more hands on understanding. only thing i lost was an old CD my best friend gave me before he passed away. i don't know why i carried that thing around with me always, stupid of me. i would give it all up for just that cd back. but he's in my heart, not in a cd case, even if it was offspring's smash which was a really great album and my personal favorite.

excited to hit thailand this weekend, getting to bangkok friday night after my last class. FINALLY this program will be over, there is celebrating to be done. think we will head there and to singapore the following week, then back to cambo. trying to get as many miles on these legs that i can!

it's 10:45 pm and i'm sleepy. going to get to bed but not before i watch new game of thrones, YES i am keeping up even from SE asia it took me a while to get into this show, well i protested when my brother wanted me to watch it so badly then gave in and watched two seasons in two weeks. now im definitely stuck on it!

i love you all, and hope this finds you well! xoxo CV

oh and don't forget my etsy store i listed a bunch of new prints, and shipping out last weeks order this week. i apologize for the delay, getting robbed unfortunately robbed me of money too which resulted in a huge hassle, the biggest one dealing with the bank on the phone, but cards are on their way, prints will be too.

first things first, i have a little announcement to make... don't think it's very happy news, in fact in somewhat breaks my heart, and i think it will probably disappoint a lot of you since you have coined Darryl and I the dream team. In any case, due to personal reasons and disagreements, we will not be shooting anymore, ever.

Not to worry though, he will have plenty of AWESOME photos of Radeo for you to all enjoy! I plan on traveling to the UK after my teacher training is done here, and there I'll link up with a few more photographers to shoot with, in addition to some magazines I have lined up! So keep your eyes peeled for those lovely little things. Promise not to disappear! At least for too long.

One more important thing to get out of the way- I've opened an Etsy shop!! I am having a print sale right now, if you purchase 2 you get the third for free. They are all signed and numbered, in limited quantities. Please visit Vargas Haus etsy store to check check check em out! All proceeds will go towards my Cambodia trip, so orders will be greatly appreciated and I will be throwing in little mini oil paintings and such as small gifts as well!

anyway, GREETINGS FROM SOUTHEAST ASIA! Phnom Penh to be exact. Traveled to Siem Reap this weekend, and I am fucking exhausted. The following is why:

angkor thom climb vid

I uploaded a TON of photos that I took at several temples in Angkor Wat, including a video of us climbing Angkor Thom. Amazing experience. I met monkeys, celebrated khmer new year and saw the sunrise, was blessed by buddhist monks, tried a lot of really lovely new dishes I had never even heard of... the khmer people are amazing, they all smile at you and are extremely kind hearted. we enjoyed spending time with them, and our khmer is improving quite a bit! we've also managed to take a zillion photos of the carvings on the temples and I think I may start to plan a back piece based on this one particular hindu story. all in all this experience is amazing, and i feel very blessed.

If you'd like to visit my flickr page to view all photos, click here

But for now, some of my favorites below:

That is a small preview of eighteen photos of the massive amounts I took at the temples, so like I said the rest are on Flickr.

Still continue to keep an eye out for upcoming sets!

also, if you have not read my last blog (and i apologize if you did) i was wondering if anyone could ship some of the lush products from my wishlist to cambodia. they do not ship out of US i would gladly trade you some of my original paintings and signed prints of your choice, or something else if you prefer, we can work something out. my wishlist can be found here and though i've stopped wearing makeup nearly entirely, moisturizing and using sunscreen, etc. is a very big issue here in southeast asia. i would be ever so greatful if someone would be willing to do a trade! please message me or email me directly, carrinavargas@gmail.com - to set something up.

I LOVE YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH! i hope that you enjoy the photos and the upcoming sets, and that this finds you all well and happy! XOXO CV

southeast asia is amazing!

1. thai food in america is not spicy. at all.

2. the motorcycles become absurdly close to terrible accidents but magically pull it off everytime.

3. durian fruit really does smell... pungent.

4. my instax camera was stolen the first night i was here. while it was sitting next to me, on the mekong riverfront.

5. it is insanely hot and very humid but there is a cool breeze because of the river and it's quite nice.

6. the marketplaces are cultural hubs of smiling cambodians and they are amazing people. my book is coming along nicely. there is so much inspiration here, it is enchanting.

7. i'm very bummed out because i didn't have the opportunity to restock on my lush products prior to coming here, and they don't ship to the states- i'd have to have it sent to someone and then have them sent to me and i'm going through withdrawls frown in addition i'm willing to trade one or two of my oil paintings with the signed prints if you'd be kind enough to send me a care package.

8. i don't wear makeup anymore. it's pointless. it melts off anyway.

9. i'm at least five shades darker.

10. i love southeast asia, and i don't know if i will ever come back. but maybe smile

I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED MY LATEST SET! It was dedicated to my all time favorite human. I don't think I did him justice, but I did want to pay my respects. And I think he would have liked my boobs.

This is a quick update- if you'd like to see more frequent photos, follow me on instagram! @carrinavargas

Also, for you kind souls out there who would like to send me some lush products from the states, i'd gladly send you back some signed prints and cool little carrina knick-knacks for you to enjoysmile

My wishlist can be found here: lush addiction so i don't smell like durian fruit. smile

HELLLO!

As always I have something crazy to tell you. I'm moving to Cambodia on April 9 with a good friend of mine. W'e'll be living in Phnom Penh, and spending as much time as I possibly can at Angkor Wat. I decided the whole 9-5 shit is not for me. I can't do it. I want to paint and write and live a beautiful life.

Not to worry though: some rad things coming your way soon. Dwam and I cooked up something lovely for you as well as DarrylDarko and myself

reposting an update on my treatment program here in santa monica.... cause i also forgot to let you guys know! this is coming soon: January 22.... shot by P-mod, a lovely soul by the way. This was at the top of a canyon in the Santa Barbara foothills and the winds were soooo strong! We decided to name the set after just that.

*update*

i learned today in dialectical behavioral therapy that acting on emotions with a sense of urgency isn't wise. and i know this, i just don't follow my own fucking advice. though, i'm coming to find i really don't know it all, in fact i don't know much at all. i can look at that in a negative light, or see it as how i possess an innate capacity to learn new things and grow to prosper.

i'm also realizing the biggest and hardest part of my life lately has been the fact that i graduated with my bachelors in biology and i've been out of school since june. this meaning: for the first time since 1st grade, about 20 years ago I suppose, i'm not in school. this poses a crisis situation, one of my therapists told me... for a lot of people. this lack of structure and radical change really threw me for a loop.

in any case, my treatment here at bridges to recovery is going well. i am learning to strategies to deal with the things in my past that i haven't let go of, and that i've been triggered by to fall into my pity party... i also learned it's cool to feel upset, depressed, antisocial, angry, moody, crazy, what the fuck ever... but not to let it consume me, add to it, and then thing of an opposing feeling that can overcome the negative one.

well koom bay yah i sound like a goddamn shrink swear i never believed this shit i was always very science driven, only believing in the empirically tried and tested theories and laws of physics and chemistry and every other "hard" science- not presumptions about social behaviors or trauma responses and complexes and all that...but obviously what i was doing before wasn't working.

so, i'm putting my faith in the hands of people who i'm told know what they are doing. and i am trusting them, and taking every ounce of energy in my body and devoting it to learning everything i can here.

wish me luck! oh, and if you would like to write me: (or send a care package... just no baked goods...lol)

Noelle
C/O Bridges to Recovery Facility Manager
1820 San Vicente Blvd
Santa Monica CA 90402

I will try to write everyone back! And everyone who has been supportive through this whole thing, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

and as you can tell, i might not be going anywhere. we'll see what the future holds.... i'm keeping an open mind to both archiving and staying but i need to be certain that this is something that is going to further my goals and fulfill the potential i know that i have.

anyway, wish me luck. love you all.
