Glitch!

I wanted to try something different with this one - after a while the smiles and pouts become fairly standard and I wanted to challenge myself to draw an unconventional facial expression. Typically, when drawing young female faces you must avoid adding too many lines, or else the face will look old. However, when someone is scrunching their face up it creates a lot of extra lines. The challenge is to balance the creases while still preserving the youth and cuteness of the face.

I sound like a teacher. Zzzzzzzz

The boobs help preserve the playfulness. tongue

But, there's a reason you're the jedi master, sensi, teacher...you know just how to do it right. love

I think you have a great balance and capture the subject's character...which is a whole other level of cuteness and beauty.

I often struggle with the lines and shading on men. Since I grew up drawing women, I shy away from drawing the lines and shadow one would generally see on men because I end up turning them into "coal-covered bums"...

I guess every man in my sketchbook is bare baby-faced. biggrin

I have the cheaper version of your wacom tablet and I'm just getting into using it/getting used to it. How do you like it over paper?

That's a great drawing Bob!!! You've nailed the textures, the hair really has a natural, convincing quality to it and the skin is perfectly rendered. Well done! Your boyfriend?

If I'm not drawing something specific for a project and just drawing for pleasure, I usually draw either really pretty girls or really ugly, craggy-faced men. I guess you just draw what you find sexually appealing.

...wait, what?

What tablet do you have? I can only only really draw digitially if I use the Cintiq, if it's an Intuos I find the disconnect between tablet and screen really difficult. But drawing right on the Cintiq screen is amazing. I love the speed and ability to manipulate and fix digital drawings, it makes life so much easier, but I also think there's a quality to artwork drawn on paper that can't be replicated digitally. Also, I like having a physical piece of artwork to sell or give as a gift.

In short, I really don't know what I think about anything.

Oh, if I'm supposed to be drawing what I find sexually appealing I guess I should start drawing more Jorge Garcia. love I've been doing it wrong this whole time.

I have a Wacom Intuos4. I get what you mean about the disconnect. It's difficult to get used to drawing in one place while looking in another.

The Cintiq does make it feel more like a physical piece to work with. If I ever win the lottery or rob an old lady in a dark alley (I mean, look over there at that cute puppy...) that's the next tablet I would buy.

I like the "speed" that seems to come working in digital (my sketches tend to take me about two hours) and the forgiveness it offers...but I'm partial to having something physical to hand out too.

Yur B&W drawings, especially this Glitch, are reminding me of Steve Rude's style. I mean that as a compliment. I love the mix of classic illustration and cartoonish that you seem to be playing with. works really well with the SG gals. Enjoying seeing yur "research."

Well done. She's one of the most beautiful models on the site and you've both captured that and her personality. SG seems to have done well indeed in hiring you.

My studiomate is supertalented but all that guy ever draws is animals. Owls, foxes, bears, everything.

If my theory holds, I don't want to know what kind of porno that dude's into

You know, when I first read this, it was Gael Garcia Bernal who I thought you meant.

If you find Jorge Garcia appealing then I'VE been doing it wrong.

I've always had a problem with the lines/creases on womens' faces... I guess you've kinda gotta play it by eye and do whatever looks nice. Keep up the lessons, teacher! wink

Always thought you and Amanda Conner were two of the best at getting facial expressions with only a few carefully placed lines. This work you're doing is fantastic.
