Ok, so last night I was in a bad mood, and I was probably projecting my own inabillity to adapt onto others. such is life.
So this is my first blog on SG. Be warned, I've been drinking and I'm in a pissy mood and I've been drinking.
About four months ago I moved from Ohio, US to Alberta, CA. Pretty much voted with my feet before the US election. Some things are great. Super beautiful, amazing hiking, people are MUCH nicer than in the states. I grew up in PA, and have lived in NJ/NYC, VT, and OH, and Albertians are generally much more super casual and easy to get along with. But JUMPIN FUNKIN JESZUS ON A GODAMN MUTHERFUKIN POGO STiICK, why the FUCKING MOTHER FUCKING are these people trying so god damn hard to live the suburban soccermom lifestyle? It seems that the entire society idolizes and celebrates mediocrity.
For example, I teach. It's my job. The albertian kids participate in class and are polite while US students were always in my face and combatitive. However, the grades for my US students were on average about 20% higher than the ones I have here. I gotta tell you, canadians have no right to make fun of the american education system.
Don't get me wrong, I like living in CA. I want to stay. I want to buy a house here and get old, fat and happy. But holy fucking butt: why does everyone act like they are half asleep?
Apologies to all those that may be offended by these comments and understand that I know that it is inappropriate to draw individual level conclusions from group level data.
