So apparently I'm back. According to SG my account was reactivated by one of my friends, so would the half dozen or so of you who still lurk in these waters show yourselves, otherwise I'm going to assume SG pulled a cheap one on me and reactivated on their dime. Cute marketing idea.
Looks like the site hasn't changed much since I last came around, which seems to be no earlier than late 08. That's hard to believe. It feels like I haven't been here for at least a decade.
So, what's worth checking out? Seriously, the pics are great... but hows the community these days?
Ciao for now, kids

los angeles is on fire...
whenever there are fires in the hills surrounding los angeles, if the wind is just right the ash and smoke settle into the city where i live. you can smell it everywhere, the thick stench of burning. the sun filters through the haze and becomes orange as it strikes the city. its all very ominous... the deep orange sunlight, the smell of burning, the sickly, dry feeling in the back of your throat.
this is the same wind that brings a refreshing warm breeze on perfect summer nights.

I spent the better part of Monday night lounging around Times Square in New York City. The tension anticipating the election is thick and fierce, and I would KILL to in Times Square when they call the election Monday night.
Instead, I'll be back in Los Angeles watching it all unfurl on a big-screen TV.
One way or another, it's going to be an extraordinary day. Everyone, whomever you are - white, black, man, woman, child, adult, christian, muslim - remember this day. Live every moment of it. This will perhaps be the greatest, most important day of your life - this is a day that will be sung for generations to come.
This is our moon landing. This is our Abraham Lincoln.
Do what you will with the Thoughts, the Voice, and the Vote you have, but let the choice be your own.
Keep On Fighting The Good Fight, & Gods Bless the USofA!

The Subtleties of Sound
It's funny, I haven't been back home in ages. When you're back in the place you grew up, you suddenly hear things again. Sounds you'd forgotten that you'd grown up listening to.
The sound of a train passing through town, its loud and rude chug breaking through the night sky, throbbing.
The sound of wood creaking beneath your feet as you walk back into your basement for the first time in years.
The click or clank of a 20-year-old light-switch.
The squeal of metal-on-metal as your turn the rickety old handle of your bedroom door.
The subtleties of sound.... they say that smell is the sense most connected to memory. I think for some of us, any one sensation is as powerful, or more, than any other. So much of my life is about music, sound. For me, hearing these things brings back floods of memories.
Then again, I'm ready to leave. Off to NYC, then back home to LA. The sound I miss most is the sound of music coming out of the grandiose stereo in my apartment.... not these shitty laptop speakers. To hell with laptop speakers!
au revoir, fellow dreamers...

I'm planning a trip to Europe for spring of 2009. I'll be spending about 4 weeks there and try to hit a handful of the major capital cities.
