I've decided to start running again. Not running for office or anything like that, just running.

Sounds easy, huh? Not really.

Two surgeries on my right knee and still no real ACL to speak of makes it a bit difficult. Still, I want to run.

Wish me luck!

Wow, hella long time since I've been on here. I do like layout changes though.

Had an odd memory pop up today when I was at the bookstore. I found a copy of Larry McMurty's "Lonesome Dove" and I was reminded of when I first read the novel as a Marine in Iraq. The memory shows Marine humor beautifully.

Me: Sitting in the Hummer reading the paperback of "Lonesome Dove". The captain walks up to me.
Capt: Hey, that book any good?
Me: Yep, pretty entertaining so far. Everyone is in love with town whore.
Capt: Huh, ever read it before?
Me: Nope.
Capt: Know how it ends?
Me, annoyed: Nope
Capt: Well, you know we're going on a raid tonight and expect resistance, right?
Me: Yep, I took the message traffic and told you. Remember, Sir?
Capt: Oh that's right! Well you should read the last chapter of the book before we go. Just in case you get killed and all. That way you know how it ends.
Me: That's fucked up, Sir.
Capt: I'm always thinking of your best interests, Brother.

So wow.......feel off the face of the earth for a while!! Clawed my way back up and looking forward to getting back in the fight. The weather is starting to cool a bit here making spending time outdoors (LOVE that!) so much more fun. So, looking to update all this here and see what else pops up!

Moving.....I despise it so. But it can be good too. Just finished moving from Houston to Austin and getting settled in. It was all very quick, a former supervisor called and offered me a job and next thing I knew I was handing in a two weeks notice and packing boxes! Austin is a pretty cool place. The weather is much more agreeable than Houston's and there are no pine trees to spread sap and needles everywhere. The real plus to it all is living in a house now vs. the apartment I was in. Much, much nicer. So, we shall see what the future brings.

Man, it is fucking HOT! This is frikkin' Africa hot, I know, I've been there. Ha! It hit 101 with a heat index of 111 today. To top that the humidity was around 55%. It's like living underwater only without the cool aquatic effect. I love my job because I get to work outside and with zero supervision but damn, it's crappy at this time of the year. Can't wait for late October and November to come around.

I've also changed my name on here. I've toyed around with it a bit but this one seems to fit. It's Japanese for barbarian. Most people think that is what gaijin means but it's not. Gaijin means "not Japanese" in a sub-human context. It's an insult where as banjin is more of a statement of fact. Anyways................Hope everyone is doing well!

Who here likes old stuff? I mean really old stuff. I went downtown to the Museum of Natural History and saw the Imperial Rome exhibit today. It's a touch on the small side but has some great statues and bronze work in it. Some of the jewelery was amazing, especialy if you consider it's 2000 years old. Quite a bit of the display was from the early part of the Empire, about 100-200 AD (or CE for those that like that) and it was a good mix of military and civil items. I recommend going in the morning before the screaming kids arrive. Nothing wrong with kids mind you, but the place is made for amplifying the noise of a crowd and it somehow seems wrong to be noisy in the presense of such history. Yes, I am a geek. And I am feeling much better now BTW. I'm going to sit on my patio now and smoke my new James Upshall P Grade pipe and watch the rain fall.

Allrighty, on the advice of a very nice gal out here I am going to start this blog thing going. Let's see where it leads, shall we?

I had USMC reserve duty this weekend but that got cut short for me. I've been fighting an upper respiratory infection for a few days and have felt like crap. But, stubborn like I am I went in to drill this weekend. I was talking to my captain Saturday morning and he looks at me with this odd expression......."Staff Sergeant, you look like you just took a shower and forgot to towel off." I reminded him of my URI and that I was feeling like ass. A few minutes later our Colonel comes by and agrees that yes, I do look like I am dying. So back home I was sent!

The doctor put me on two steroids, one a pill and one a nasal spray and an antibiotic or something of that nature. So guys and gals.......if you ever get a URI don't try and tough it out. Just go to the doctor!

As for this site, I have to say I enjoy it a lot. I've always been the very proper looking kid/guy that was really into goth, metal, and alt-rock big time. If you get to know me you'll find that my tastes are all over the place. From Billie Holiday to NIN and from Mainstream to Indie. Thanks to everyone that's taken the time to write a message and those that have become friends. I'm looking forward to seeing what this place brings.
