I'm crazy excited about the Flogging Molly show in town next week. It's gonna be some good, heel-kicking times.

Got in my first ever car accident last night. Grrr. Had come back from a low-key show (Roberta Chevrette) and was heading to an all-night diner around 1:00 AM for some coffee. Traffic was fairly light and everyone was going around the speed limit on a four lane highway. I was in the second lane from the right. A semi-truck was in the lane to my left. No one was in the other two lanes. There were a couple vehicles scattered through the lanes in front and a couple behind, but none close enough to worry about...maybe the closest was 50 feet away or so. No one had changed lanes and nothing else unusual had happened. Out of the blue, the truck turns on his blinker and immediately shifts into my lane, which unfortunately is exactly where I am. So as soon as I see his blinker I try to get the hell out of his way, but he turns into my lane so fast I can't get away in time. Nothing like having a big ass truck plow right into the side of your car to give a guy a good feeling. My car got knocked out of my lane, through the next lane and part way onto the shoulder. I pull over and look up and the semi has totally disappeared down the road and no one else stopped. Since we were going 65, the guy never slowed down, and it was dark out I couldn't catch his license plate. So now I've got a car with a smashed up side that's making all sorts of nasty noises, and I've got no idea who the other party was and no witnesses.

I'm not even sure if I'm going to try to make a claim since I had to get new insurance when I moved to California. I hate to think what it would do to my premiums to put a claim on a policy with a new carrier when I've only been a customer for a few weeks.

There was this art & wine festival going on in town which sounded like maybe a decent way to blow a few weekend hours. Wasn't my scene. Lots of tents, kids, vendors and such.

Decided to go check out the local art museum instead. Goes by the name of the Crocker Museum, and it's got some pretty cool architecture. Not exactly the Guggenheim, but definitely worth a visit. Current exhibits were on Mongolian art and Italian drawings from the 16th century. Permanent collections were pretty good for a mid-sized town like Sacramento.

One thing that really surprised me was that people in the museum seemed to have a different standard of behavior than I'm used to. It didn't seem like people had "museum voices", they just kept up conversations at full volume, calling out to their buddies across the room and such. Guess I'm used to people acting with a certain respect, if not reverence in museums, sort of like in a church. Maybe there's no reason for treating museums with that kind of respect, it's just what I'd become acclimated to.

I didn't check out the bottom floor yet, maybe I'll hit that next week.

Ran into this barber shop named Eddie's Place or somesuch. Gotta love a place that you walk into to get your nasty-ass mane trimmed back and they've got magazines with the Paladins and Reverend Horton Heat scattered about. Nice. Eddie's ma (lady who named her place after her 7-year old boy...proud mama). She's set up a bar in her backyard and is giving her space to bands for free shows. Good stuff.

Also found this bar called Bonn Lair the other day. Good place. Some very cool, incredibly old and decrepid guys frequent the place. I fit right in. Plus, a bunch of people there are totally into darts, so I can hound them with my invariably ignorant questions.

Finally found a couple decent places in town. Good to find that Sacramento has at least a couple places that aren't blindingly bright, huge, open-spaced chains like Applebees, Starbucks, etc.

Stumbled into this bar called Old Ironsides, which seems pretty cool. Servers seem like decent folk, it's nice and dark, got some retro booths and such. Looks like they've got a decent line-up on the live music.

Even better, is this pub a block or so up called the Fox and Goose (or something like that). Chatted with three or four of the people who work there and with a decent crowd of other patrons. Great people. Very nice selection of beers and it's got a comfortable atmosphere. Think I'll be hanging out there more.

Hey to anyone unfortunate enough to stumble into this journal.

I just moved to Sacramento from New York a couple weeks ago and have been bored out of my skull.

The sad recognition that the high point of my socializing has become 3:00 AM Denny's runs to read history books while at least being in the presence of other humans, have led me to seek out some online conversation to fill the void until I hook up with some new friends out here. This site seems like a pretty good bet for that. Some damn funny and well thought out posts in the boards on here.

So, here I am, and howdy to anyone who's taken the time to read this.
