In case I am not able to update for awhile, I'm posting something that can just "hang out" until I can make it back.

I need for every person who reads this to do me a favor.
Seriously guys.
I didn't really notice how self-absorbed and detached everyone is until I got away from the city and spent some time up in the mountains where life is slower. You can cash a check at the store with no ID. You don't have to lock your door to your home or car. People smile at one another, strike up a conversation, compliment you, help you out, common courtesy, I guess?
In the city it's not like this at all. If you attempt small talk or try to make someone laugh they will usually look at you like you are a weirdo. They will run you off the road in traffic instead of letting you over. The traffic thing really pisses me off. Driving is dangerous and being a dick can get someone hurt. So this "hit me bitch, I got full coverage" attitude is lame-as-fuck! Full coverage isn't going to fucking matter when you bite your tongue off and have a foot pedal smashing your shin. I'll get over a lane, no big deal.
BUt anyways, enough about that..... What I want is for everyone to be nice to one another. No, nice won't cut it. What needs to happen is kindness. There's a difference. I don't just mean be polite to those you come in contact with just b/c you don't act like a insolent prick towards others does not mean you're being kind. Do something you would normally not think to do and make someone smile. A smile - start with that. It could change someones day. Start a ripple effect. Spread kindness, peace, love and understanding. Gotta run

I kind of live in a place like that, even though it is getting more like a small city every day....

i try to give everyone a smile and say hello or good morning....

its just like on here..... i used to try to leave comments on all my "friends" journal entries at least once a week but how 90 % don't take the time to say thanks or comment back.....kind of rude huh....(i really don't like rude people that much, must come in part from my time in the orient where everyone is polite).

I've got two daughters 4 1/2 & 1. My wife and I have one simple rule for them that we talk about all the time, a rule that in our household supercedes all others as far as it's importance goes.

I'll ask my 4 year-old: "What's the most important thing in the world?"

She responds: "Being nice to people..." and for the most part she acts accordingly.

Pretty simple, huh, but man-oh-man, how this world change if people simply let that one principle guide their actions. Whether it be driving a car, waiting in line at the bank, or whatever the case may be, a lot of positive things are generated simply from treating people w/compassion and civility as often as possible.

I can totally relate to this .. I lived in LA for 5 years then moved back to the midwest and the attitudes are so different. People here are just not (on average) as absorbed in their own bullshit. I am not sure I could live in another major city like that with out becoming a total prick again.

P.S. Welcome Back
