Went out a-walking for my birthday... lovely weather we were having.

I'm middle aged, now. At least by old standards... nowadays thanks to the boomers they try to claim middle age doesn't start till 60 or some crap...

Trying to plot out a trip to Bath/Bristol though that is not looking like it's going to be cheap (York was actually pretty cheap, like $500 for the whole 4-day trip.) Bath's looking like it'll take about $600+ just for a hotel. I might try flying EasyJet into Bristol since it seems cheaper than train tickets, but I've heard some bad things about these budget airlines. Any warnings? Tips?

Meanwhile I'm thinking of laying off the OK Cupid dates... that site can be weirdly addicting, though -- answering questions and tests and whatnot. Obviously I found a sex-partner through it, and there's a couple other guys maybe worth seeing again... and the more guys I see the more creeps I'm likely to run into, so maybe I ought to take my winnings and leave while I'm ahead.

My skin's been much clearer all in all in Edinburgh than it was in Santa Fe for the last 4 or so months before I left... I noticed in York my skin cleared up almost totally... and now I'm back to getting a few pimples... I'm wondering if my pillows might be too unclean, so I washed one of them in boiling water. (The washer here gets water up to 95 degrees C -- my towels have never been so clean!) We will see if that helps.

Was interested in booty calling the Marquis de Sade again, but he was out drinking and it got too late for me... he still drunk-dialed me though which was cute in a way... and like a true Scotsman today he wrote me apologizing for the late call and complaining he needs Irn Bru for his hangover. (I think one of these nights I need to deliberately get wasted, then do the traditional drunked kebabs and then Irn Bru in the morning.)

Oddly, Mr. Hat might know the Marquis -- at least he claims to know someone with the same name matching his general description. Overhearing me talking about the Marquis and interjecting this, was the first time Mr. Hat willingly spoke to me since February.

Personalitywise I actually think I like him the best of the fellows I met through OK Cupid, ignoring his obviously being insane and groping me... he's a smart fellow and can talk about a lot of subjects (though sex and porn is obviously his favorite.) Did meet another Scot with worse piercings though -- de Sade just has his nipples done, another fellow who seems to model his hairstyle on Legolas from the Lord of the Rings films, has a Prince Albert (no, I didn't see it.)

I'm actually trying to think if there's some way I can stay here... I don't really have any hope but I'm horrified by the idea of leaving. There's definitely no life for me in New Mexico, or probably anywhere in the US. Even in the dull, lonely winter there is at least the museum and the graveyards to go visit...

"Wow. That's why I love this site. Just when I think I'm unique, and open-minded, I talk to people, like you. And am totally put back in my place."

--a fellow SG user, apparently after learning that real live men I've had can (and do) like to *be* fisted.

It strikes me I've had as many health problems/serious injuries in the last 9 months as I think I had in the previous 10 years.

I think someone may have put a jinx on me...

I've been using OK Cupid to meet folks here in Edinburgh. Currently have gone out with 2 Scots, both of whom boast of being perverts and mentioned having dungeons in their homes (I think the first guy takes the cake though, he's like De Sade reincarnated. Kept feeling like Kate Winslet in that movie "Quills" -- going to end up dead in a washtub for him. Second guy had just run a porn shop in the past and seemed to kind of like bondage collars.) Also two Indian guys, both much more tame -- the second was actually boring, the first was interesting and traveled a lot.

The second Scottish fellow actually took me to a ceilidh, at which I felt like I'm officially in a Jane Austen novel -- going to a dance. Though there were a lot more kilts than in a Jane Austen novel.

Back from York -- it was a fun little town, though very touristy. Still, got to enjoy the history and strange little adventures, like having tea in a 15th century building, finding some kind of owl exhibition going on the yard of a 13th century church, and seeing animatronic vikings over an actual archaeological dig.

Greetings from York! Today I was mostly on the train, then in the afternoon I arrived at my B & B. I walked around the walls and saw the Shambles (a medieval street) and looked a little bit at the Minster -- I'll probably view it in more detail tomorrow.
