My birthday was yesterday! Had fun! Tomorrow is my 1928 Murder Mystery Bday Party! Got a wig and took pre-party pictures for y'all!

I got a text while I was at work today, that my best friend's mother was possibly not going to make it through the day.
This is the same best friend who lost her father last month in a work accident. Her mother was diagnosed with a lung cancer back in August, but had gotten worse these last few weeks. She sent a message yesterday about her mom being under hospice care at the house, but today her blood pressure dropped dramatically and the nurse didn't think she'd make it.
I left work immediately at 2:30pm to go to the house. God, she looks terrible. Hooked up to oxygen. Her arms are so swollen from the pain meds and not moving from the bed. She was passed out the whole time, opened her eyes once or twice, but I don't think she could tell what was going on. I stayed until almost 10pm. She's still holding on, but I almost don't want to go to sleep...I'm afraid of getting woken up by the phone call. I don't know about work tomorrow. I feel like I can't miss it, since we're already so short on people, but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to function if this happens tonight...
I don't know how many more people I can lose this year...
Of course we found out last Wednesday that my grandfather had been in the hospital since Monday for chronic bronchitis and emphysema. He's hooked up to oxygen, but luckily in better shape than he could be...

I know I'm usually all about fun and sex and corsets and photos, but today I really need to be serious about current events.
The whole thing in Steubenville has been really tough on me. It's been triggering and the news has continued to perpetuate rape culture by sympathizing with the boys who raped an unconscious girl at a party. I'm not going to argue with anyone on this because it shouldn't be an argument. If you don't want to be know as "So-in-so, the rapist" DON'T RAPE. If she CAN'T give consent, then there is no consent. I would know.
Now one of the boys' lawyers is saying that 16 year old brains aren't fully developed enough to know that rape is wrong....ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!?!
Anyway, with all of this there is some good. A teacher was able to teach her 9th graders to NOT rape.
It's a great blog entry. I cried. You know what would be better? If PARENTS taught their children this.
It has taken me YEARS (almost 10) to be able to tell myself that it wasn't my fault. I'm glad her story was brought to light and the boys prosecuted, and I'm glad that the two girls who bullied her online were punished. Victim blaming is NOT okay.
