You seem to disagree with the "unless you are attacked" bit, judging by your recent comments to me, so why include it here?

Brother, if you think I'd allow any dependent, human or otherwise, to remain in my home after attempting to maim another of my dependents, human or otherwise, you are mistaken. The fact that for an animal it's usually a death sentence, and for a human it never is, isn't fair, and it sucks big time, but doesn't change the decision that needs to be made. If the roles had been reversed, and my son had attempted to maim my dog, you can bet your ass my son wouldn't still be living with me, either. It wouldn't change the love I have for my son, just as it didn't change how much I loved our dog, but you simply don't expose your other dependents to that level of jeopardy; doing so would be child abuse, plain and simple.
