Holy fuck#$*(&!!(*&#$!!"! The Host is bar none the most awesome monster movie of all time.
Fecking wow. I'm not going to say another word, you'll just have to go see it for yourself. Cause...wow.

I've been running around town like the little dervish of ToDo-ville. When my friend was supposed to come stay with me and I didn't have much time to do the whole cleaning thing, as I was making my attempt, the thing that eventually pissed me off most was seeing how many half-finished projects I have laying around. I think after today's fit of productivity, keeping with the theme, I've halved the number of half-done things.

A coworker called and tried to get me to come out and play tonight, instead I ended up folding 3 weeks worth of laundry, baking a pie and unpacking a couple boxes worth of crap I'd left packed for years. And now I'm calling it an early night so I can get up early and start all over. I think I just heard my liver applaud.

So, what's your grand plans for St. Patty's day weekend? Do you go out and drink up, or do you avoid the whole scene like the plague?

Hooray, I didn't get royally screwed on taxes this year! And all it took was making about 10% less than I did last year! robot Which also means I made slightly over 1/3 of what my household income was 2 years ago! skull And yet somehow, this is the first time I've ever had a savings account. Hooray for fiscal responsibility! tongue

The boy is occupied with friends and a big fat drinking fest/quest this weekend, so I've got an entire weekend to ACCOMPLISH THINGS! I think that either means I'm old or that I'm a "career girl". Or both.
So Budapest, being a non-issues now, is free to be replaced. Instead of my 1 week there, I'm now looking at 3 days in Boston, 2 weeks in San Jose, and 3 days in Pheonix. My cats will hate me. wink

What are you all up to? What's new, what're your exciting plans? What's the most entertaining thing that happened to you this month?

I'm now on week whateverthehell of workaholicness. Got another paper to add to my deadline, so I'll be a recluse till at least the first week of April now. Even my socializing this weekend will likely be work-oriented. Colleague needs to be wined and dined, showed how awesome Portland is. But Mom's supposed to come up for lunch, at which point I think we're gonna go a bit crazy - check out the friendly local Raw Food restaurant. I'm excited.

Well, poop. The conference in Budapest was cancelled. Now I don't know if I'll be traveling anywhere else at all this year. Still crossing my fingers on the papers I've submitted so far. Guess I'll just focus on cranking out the writing gigs in the meanwhile. Maybe I can actually get in a couple weeks vacation time instead. That'd be nifty.

Geez. This has been the first time in ages I've been in town and not checking the intarweb daily. Been running and running at break-neck speed, with no sign of stopping to breathe soon. Worked almost every day and night this week. Maybe Wednesday night will include breathing time... whatever This is my month of being a full blown, crazy workaholic. Then focals. wink
It's kinda surreal getting into a groove of getting deeply immersed in my own life and then flying off like a tornado like this. I'm not entirely sure where I am.

Not so much on the previous request yet, but on the request of doing something new at work...the universe has responded in abundance. I have something like 5 writing opportunities that all need to be done this month, from abstracts to rewriting a chapter in a book. Eek. Looks like I'm gonna be buckling down, then! Also aiming to get sent to Vienna and London, in addition to my next jaunt in May to Budapest. Crossing my fingers!
Geez, this all makes me feel like such the growed-up. whatever

I'm officially tired of watching my friends have shitty times with their relationships. I hereby order the universe to start giving everybody heaps and heaps of happiness and love and ease.

It works that way, right? I say "jump" and the universe says "how high?"

I'm having the weirdest time trying to readjust to this time-zone. Every morning I've had this dream where I've had to force myself awake to avert some horrible disaster or something. Fucking annoying. Add to this I'm fighting like hell to avoid some cold, and all this rain is suddenly depressing the shit out of me. Woo!! Happily my next trip will be to the bay area. More sunshine, less jet-lag.

Alyssum's Fun & Adventure post!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

The first thing we did upon landing was to find a spot to stay at, at one of the more populated areas. Not already having a hotel, that was exciting, and it worked out well. smile Then we wandered around and marveled at the smells and the unbelievable percentage of non-Thai-food restaurants and ...uh, not exactly Engrish but its Thai equivalent.
I got some flip flops which are "Diesel Lite" (now with 30% less calories?), with "Shock Assorption". Oh and of course we got an hour and a half worth of massages for about $20. Sweet.
A couple days later, we moved on to a resort further up the beach, for the main festivities. It was like Thailand, filtered. The air was cleaner, no hassling vendors, Thai food was in abundance, but of course everything was a bit more expensive. The boy found a tailor at the main resort shopping area, who had the best materials and workmanship we found there. Had a wooooonderful 5 course valentine's day dinner at the Italian restaurant there for Valentine's Day.
Did a bit of touring of the downtown area the 2nd day, which was less exciting than expected aside from going to McDonald's. Plus my legs had pretty much had it at that point, from all the walking. Note to self: always include advil when I know I'm gonna be walking! Spent the afternoon in the hotel room chilling, watching the National Geographic channel until the boy was able to get me some tylenol. Apparently acetaminophen is called paracetamol there. Good to know. I was a bit pertweaked about that. Then I went with the boy to the tailor for his first fitting... he really got some absolutely amazing suits at a very, very decent price.
Friday was the "activity" day, went on a package tour of pretty much the entire west side of the island. Saw some beautiful temples, the Cape, Sunset Point, etc. Note to you girls out there: foreign toilets are always an adventure - don't forget to bring your own toilet paper. Seriously. Got a lot of amazing pictures which I'll post some highlights of, at some point. After that we took advantage of the hotel spa... $45 for an hour and a half, but even more amazing. It bears saying again - Hooray for chest massages!
Saturday was a lot of work stuff, with a bit of time in the middle for exploring Patong again with a coworker. He had been nastily sunburnt, being a redhead, which made for much amusement for the locals. I got stopped about every 15' and asked about my tattoo, which amused the coworker greatly.
Sunday, woke up early for one last buffet breakfast (heeeeaps of fruit, tea, and an exceptionally good chocolate croissant) and then headed to the bus to the airport. Then...ugh, travel fun. But we were able to get on a standby flight in extra good seats, from SFO home. So at least it ended well!
