So apparently to be accepted around here you need to blog. I have over one thousand "friends" on this site. I belong to over twenty groups . I post comments on an almost daily basis. But because I do not like posting my private thoughts publicly, or well semi-publicly I don't make the grade.
So I wonder is this not a community of people who are supposed to be on the fringe , eclectic , artsy, intelligencia ? You know the sort normal white bread vanilla folks used to despise and beat up. once upon a time the popular cool kids used to shun the pierced , the tattooed, the fans of strange music and offbeat fashions. Those few those insecure those dare we say geeky used to cluster together for strength and a sense of community. Now it is cool to have tattooes and piercings and listen to punk and alt rock and wear outlandish things . So what develops but a caste system within the formerly alternative crowd where we have the pretty, cool, and popular freaks ( I am using the term with love as opposed to derision here) and then the layers down to the ugly, smelly, and shunned.
What I am trying to get at here is maybe a bit more openness would be nice. Not that I haven't met some great people here and I love this site very much . However I just feel like the outsider geek all of a sudden and I really feel a sense of extreme irony that I am getting that here . Does this make any sense at all ?
Thoughts people. If I have to blog this shiite out then I might as well make it interesting smilesmilesmile

there you go, start a debate with your blogs! some people use em for asking questions, asking for pictures (like silly cats. ok bad example but yeah)... I think the request for a blog is to get a feel for who the person is before letting them join just any group... Safety maybe? i dunno. Rambles.

Some people are just not bloggy people. That's one of the reasons why my hubby doesn't have an account on here.

I can understand why people would like for one to have a blog-They want to get a feel for the personality of the person they're friending or going to accept into a group. However, we're all just words on a screen. We can pretend to be something we're not.

I never thought of it that way , that has to suck . Actually something I forgot to add , I recently saw an episode of southpark that pretty much covered my rant it was terribly funny. Your point is well taken Alea but Drusylla is correct about people pretending to be something they are not. How do you know ? Myself I am a terribly shy person until I feel comfoprtable around you , then I am an opinionated loudmouth lol smile

I like this entry, actually. Your thoughts, your concerns, and invitations for others to share as well. Personally I like being able to share things in my blog that I might not otherwise.

Having over a thousand people on your friends list doesn't mean anything to be honest.

Are they people that you interact with regularly? That could say that they feel like they know you?

The point of having members with blogs and that are active on the site is for safety reasons....
Especially in regional groups.

I am going to assume this blog was caused by a regional groups pre-req's for joining.

I am a group owner of a regional group (Upstate NY) and we have the blog/picture/comments pre-req as well. We have it because we meet up in the real world, and the girls especially need a sense of security that the people coming to our events are not the stakling, OCD, Mark David Chapman type (in fact a 'resident' of Upstate NY tongue ). It may seem trivial and a easy test to get around, but since we have started the pre-req's for group membership we have had one issue at the dozen or so events since it's inception, compared to almost incidents at every event as 'outsiders' (ie: Non-SG members) or lurking members would show up to 'get some SG action' and do something insulting (in some cases even assaulting) or destructive, hiding behind their online anonmymity afterwards.

As a technicality being one card out of the three you need for most pre-req I can understand that being very frustrating. But I know, that in my group at any rate they are their for protectionist reasons rather than cliqueism.

I would simply add that your blog is also one of the quickest and easiest way to see how you generally are, cause even though you post regularly in groups, it isn't always suiting for an admin to start jumping from one board to the other to see how you act with everyone. I guess there must be a lot of requests, and that they have other things to do than make a big investigation on you.

Ok, so I will try to post more often , and keep some resemblance of a blog. However in refernce to King Mob's comments. I was pretty sure those were the reasons for the requirements, but isn't the scary thing about people like Marc David Chapman and serial killers and such is that the really scary ones are quite charming and affable. So how do you tell from a blog if someone is genuine? I have know my share of liars and false people in my life . And from what I have experienced faking a really nice persona in a blog would be quite easy. Now I am glad you managed to root out the crazies that were causing you troubles, but were these people really stupid enough to rant and rave their crazy shit on their bogs? Cuz that is really creepy if that is so, and they were/are just stupid as well and unhinged. I just don't personally trust internet communications. I find the only way to get to know someone is in person. However there comes a point where butting your head into a wall only takes you so far. so a blogging I will go . Thank you everyone for your help and advice I will try to be a round peg LMAO.
