"How are you feeling?"

A oddly large number of people have been asking me this lately. I've been saying "okay", because I haven't really been able to describe it. But today, while talking to Matt, this popped into my head, but I couldn't explain it to him(and this is why you should watch Firefly and Serenity, Matt, so I can use stupid metaphors.)

It's like watching Serenity for the second time. Third if you're the sort of person who needs a couple viewings for things to sink in.

It's that moment right when they're being chased by Reavers, and Wash is flying like a slightly batty ace, but things are still falling apart and there can't possibly be much hope. Yeah, that scene.

But then - there's that moment! Everything is looking like it could be okay - "I'm a leaf on the wind. I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch me soar." You want to think - it'll be okay! Everything will be alright! And you want to be happy! Maybe things will actually turn out fine, and everyone is going to be just peachy.

But because it's the second viewing, you know that there's going to be a huge fucking stake coming through that window. And your mind pauses in that moment, because you've seen all this happen before, and you already know the look on Zoe's face and you already know that feeling of "Holy shit. They're all going to die" and you know that you're just going to have to keep on watching, even if you're sinking lower and lower into the seat because you really don't want to see this again, you don't want to deal with it again and there's no fucking way that this can happen again. And there's that terrible sinking feeling, because there is hope, and possibility - but there's going to be a huge fucking stake coming though that window...right now.

But it is the second viewing. And you already know that no one else is going to die. We're going to dwell a little, and mourn and then move on. That beaten up old Firefly class ship is going to keep on flying. It is broken, and the crew is broken and there might be an awful lot more breaking on the way, but it'll be okay.

Yeah.

Ok... is it weird that I totally followed what you were saying.

Maybe it's because Firefly and Serenity totally rocked. smile
