So heres what I've been up to for the past few months.
Hung out with sweet lil peas a while ago

Been working a shit ton. Here we are doing a cooking class at The Ronald McDonald House to benefit the Children's Hospital and RMH.

I make a mess as usual

When I first got my job, before I moved back to San Diego, my boss was awesome enough to let me stay at her house while I looked for a place to live. I have to admit looking out of my window every morning and seeing this:

didn't help motivate me to look for an apartment.
Its right by the Torrey Pines gliderport so there were always people flying by. Id usually wave at them and say "hi."
I actually walked there one day via the beach and cliff.

The view from the edge of the property. There were always surfers parking (and changing
) on the street.
My boss' garden overlooking the water. I loved coming out here on my lunch break or after work and eating tomatoes.

and raspberries!

moar tomatoes! there are seriously a ridiculous amount and variety of tomato and pepper plants in the garden which I absolutely loved.

and oceans of basil!

brussel sprouts.

mmmmmmmelon

and gorgeous flowers everywhere

I brought Eleanor by the house once and she seemed to dig it.
Needless to say, I miss that house.
We finally opened our doors at the lounge. Business has been fairly steady. Weekdays are a little slow but weekends pick up and we still have a lot of catering orders.
My hands are really feeling the effects of all this work. I think it might be tendonitis.
So I've been icing and taking ibuprofen. My boss has been really nice and given me my days off all together so I can get rest although unfortunately it hasnt seemed to help much. I can't really afford to stop working and I'm afraid thats what I might need. I really should see a doctor about it I suppose. Insurance might help....
No benefits from work yet but we're hoping in the future they will be able to offer them. Its not really anything I can't work through most of the time but nobody wants to be in pain all the time.
Had the work holiday party last night at the boss' house. Fully catered and DJ'd. Some of us bakers did a secret santa which was awesome. All the dogs (boss has 5, plus I brought Maisy and another baker brought her chihuahua) were in holiday garb. Sweaters and/or bell collars. My boss' chihuahua and the other baker's chihuahua were both wearing Santa outfits. Pretty freakin cute. The party got pretty awesome. My boss always says "anything worth doing, is worth doing in excess," and boy is she ever good at that. She was standing on the coffee table singing Warren G and Nate Dogg at one point. It was pretty awesome.
There are pictures of course, but I seem to have left my camera at her house.
oops.
Pics will be posted soon.
Well I have to scoot off to work. Those cupcakes wont bake themselves!

Suuuuuper busy and I promise a real journal entry some time soon.
But busy is good. I'm working a lot, excited to start working in our space as of next week
Yoga is going well.
the apartment is great. Need another cage for Atari, whose condition is not improving so his medication will have to be switched.

I hate growing bangs out. What a fucking pain in the ass. NEVER AGAIN!

I started work this week!
For those that don't know, I has a job! When I was thinking about moving from Ventura, I was considering moving back to San Diego where I've lived for about 8 or 9 years, or to LA. I was sending out resumes to places in both cities hoping to hear from something in one and then moving to wherever I found work. Well I never heard anything so I picked LA. I was very familiar with LA for never having lived here. My brother and many friends are here. I continued my job hunt in LA. Well a few weeks ago I get a call from a cupcakery in San Diego that had received my resume way before I moved. Knowing I'd be an idiot to turn down an interview, I went to San Diego a couple days later to meet with the owner and managers. We all hit it off and they invited me back for a try out the following week, then I was hired!
A little bit about the cupcakery:
- We are not open yet. The owner has been doing catering for large events for the past 2 years and thinks its finally time to open a store.
- It is all organic! The general manager has been having a hell of a time sourcing everything but people are very excited about organic.
- It is in downtown La Jolla in a very affluent area. The location is fantastic.
- We will be doing deliveries in the area! yay!
- I am not the head baker, there is not a head baker really unless you count the owner. I am perfectly content with this right now. After they get a feel for how all the bakers work and who has good leadership qualities they may give one a managerial position. Im still not sure if I'd want that.
- We have a space we will be using for cupcake parties AND classes, and I get to teach classes! This is one of the most exciting things for me. I love teaching. I honestly don't care if they have another baker be the head honcho (as long as they are more qualified than myself and not a jerk) as long as I get to teach classes.
- We are still doing catering jobs until the kitchen and other construction is done. When that happens, we will be there full time to get ready to open.
- Any cheeses we need (ricotta, mascarpone, creme fraiche) will be made in house. Awesome!!!!
- There are many restaurants and bars close by so we will be open late and have karaoke and DJs! How awesome is that?!
Sooooo I'm very excited about this job and I hope we flourish! San Diego is a huge city and I think has only two other cupcakeries.
ALSO, while I was in San Diego this week to work for an event we had, I went to yoga with my boss and the general manager. I love it so I got me one of these:

my mom says its the best mat shes ever used so shes sending me one. I cant tell you how excited I am about it.
Having danced for so long really helped it not be so overwhelming. I've taken yoga before when I was dancing but never liked the teachers and I honestly can't remember which style they taught. I really liked the studio my boss took me to so I definitely think I'll be returning with her again, as well as looking at other studios when I get to San Diego.
I definitely hit a plentiful moment in my life so Im going to get all I can from it and not waste this opportunity.

Running On Empty
Is there something Im missing? Is there some kind of secret job-attaining handshake I need to give prospective employers? Maybe a magical incantation I need to include in my resume?
I really dont want to sound whiny. Let me know if thats how any of this sounds.
I have been unemployed for several months. At first, losing both of my jobs gave me a feeling of relief. I wanted out but had no time to look for something that wouldnt drain me and make me want to stab everyone in the face. The free time was nice and I spent a lot of it looking for a new job. At first I tried to find something where I could use my newly acquired Bachelor's degree. I fully knew that people with a Bachelor's degree are not so hard to come by these days, but remained positive and hopeful. There was a decent job for me out there, and I was going to find it. Again, it didnt have to be the "perfect" job. Just something that wouldnt drive me bat-shit crazy.
This proved harder than I had thought it would be and after a few months, I got much less picky. Marshalls, department stores, Grocery stores (mainstream and health food), restaurants (FOH and BOH), pet stores (independent and large chain), dog grooming, behavioral therapy agencies, and LITERALLY dozens of administrative and lab assistant jobs in the UC system. I applied to THREE different UCs and at least 8 different positions at each one before realizing how bad the budget cuts are. I can't even imagine how many applications and resumes were received for all of the jobs I applied for. Employers could easily find somebody more qualified than I. It grew more and more frustrating.
I applied for unemployment, had a phone interview a few weeks later, and then heard nothing. I've called and emailed with no response from the EDD.
Im ready for the call from Toyota Financial asking me where I park my car.
I've been ignoring my phone when the collection agencies call.
I've used my Target card to buy groceries.
The girls all have about 3 cups of food left for each of them and I dont know where the next bags of food will come from. I contemplate selling Eleanor but it brings me to tears. Imagine thinking about selling your child.
With no insurance, and next to no income, I cant afford any of my medications.
I'm vollying back and forth between rallying myself up to press on, and selling everything I can, and taking a hike.
I'm running out of ideas, and steam.
The periods of positivity used to last weeks, with a few days of depression. Now its reversed.
At least this is free.
end rant.
now heres some llamas:
