We're all happy when things go just right, but being happy the rest of the time is an acquired skill, not an instinct. Evolution is a progression toward increased adaptation to survive long enough to reproduce. Happiness per se is not necessarily going to contribute to that, but luckily we do have the capacity to feel wonderful all the time, at least as I define wonderful. Learning to use it could take a few hours, though.

One of my psychologist friends likes Eckhart Tolle a lot. Eckhart certainly knows how to do this and explains it in The Power Of Now. Like any other book, if you relate to his way of explaining things then it will all fall into place. I learned to be happy from speaking at great length to a medical doctor who subsequently studied neuroscience. He refuses to write a book and has appointed me in his stead, the lazy sod. I hope no breath is being held, since I'm easily distracted.

Most of the Sayings about Happiness are a bunch of Bull... Happiness is a Fairy Tail. Most of Us just Get By with the Pretence of Happiness because things Turn out Better in our Lives instead of Worse. But People Like Me with Nothing to Be Greatful for, Just get by Hoping for some Sunshine in the Darkness of Life.
