it's hot and sexy everyday in texas lately. but i'm headed back to canada in a couple of weeks, and it's only 14 Celsius over there right now. this is very depressing news.
i don't want to leave the amazing heat for a chilly summer back home. that's not right.

in slightly more interesting news, i've been watching a lot of documentaries lately. it's become a sort of accidental marathon. here's my list so far:

Grey Gardens
possibly one of the best documentaries i've ever seen. just great.

Crazy Love
it gave me chills, made me laugh, and made me sad for people. but i did find the documentary was a little too flashy. the story itself and people involved are interesting enough that you don't need any special camera work or dramatic collages interjecting constantly.

Salesman
I wasn't sure about a documentary about Bible Salesmen in the 50's, but it was really captivating and sad. If you're a people watcher, you'll really get into this film.

Gates of Heaven
a documentary about pet cemeteries... weird.. a bit sad.. not bad, but weird..

Seven Up! the entire series to date.
this is just fucking cool. and i watched every single dvd they've made up until 49 up. i don't feel like explaining it, but i think everybody should watch it. so interesting.

and that's it so far. do you have any suggestions for great weird/human interest documentaries?

I love he Seven Up series! We had to watch a few episodes for our human development psych class, and I was hooked. I ended up borrowing the rest of the series from my professor and watching the whole thing. I, too, am a huge documentary fan.

Can't beat the south for warmth, but sometimes it gets way too warm. If the doomsayers of global warming are right, Montreal will be the next Miami. smile

Sounds like you're having fun. I'm doing ok. Documentaries are interesting. I still need to see Jesus Camp.

I'm completely jealous you've watched all the 7up series. It's on the list.

I love the 7up series. My dad turned me on to it. I have not seen the latest one, but I'd like to. One of the best documentaries I've seen recnently is Who Killed the Electric Car? I actually found it on cable pay per view. It is from a few years back; but it is about how California tried electric cars and then the car companies forcibly took them back from many adoring and reluctant leasers. Very worth watching. Another recommendation, though not a documentary film is a book I read last summer: Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage by Heather Rogers. Well written and fascinating account of how garbage has been dealt with in America since the 19th century to the present and many scary things the public doesn't realize about landfills and corporate management of garbage today. Transition warning. BTW -- Zak, you rock!

Have you ever seen '...If'? I watched it last night. It's a puzzle. I am dying to hear others' thoughts.
