Wait, WHEN did Google become Facebook?!?!

I got an invite for Google+ today but I don't want to click on anything until I know more about this. Please, give me your reviews! Is it fun? Is it crappy? Or should I say, is it creepy?

& also: the new job is fun but the shoes are not. Well, they are fun in that they're steel-toed, which makes me feel like a badass, but after 8 hours they hurt! Does anyone have any tips on breaking in safety shoes?

Please & thank you!

Yes, Google + is intended to compete with Facebook. Not sure what the differences are, but the last thing we need is another Facebook. Especially from Google, another internet Big Brother company.

You + steel-toed shoes = hot.

Just flex them and find some very good cushioned insoles. They even have steel toed shoes that look and wear like sneakers but just have steel inside the front. I've always gone with my boots though! lol

Don't know Google + yet and don't know that I will. Barely on FB and I don't really need someplace else that I hardly go to,

Don't know steel-toed shoes, but I'm suddenly taken with the idea of flexing for some reason. biggrin

I wear two pairs of socks with steel-toed boots. Even when they are broken in - my feet are tired after a shift of work. They are stiff and heavy and a good pair are hard to find. Sorry not to have a great solution.

At first I thought it was just a fancy way to "like" things with your Google login, but after I looked closer it sounds like it is intended as a full-blown competitor for Facebook, with a bunch of enhancements and new features Facebook doesn't currently offer. I signed up but haven't gotten in yet. I've never been all that crazy about Facebook, but that's where everyone is now. It won't be easy for a new competitor to gain ground, but Google+ sounds pretty interesting.

As bennie said, try to flex them by hand multiple times, them as forcefully as you can, and get some good cushioned insoles.

There are two features I find interesting: the multi-way video chat and the fact that I can put my contacts in various "circles" instead of one big "friends" list for everyone.

I like G+ better than Facebook in a lot of ways. They're a bit more careful about privacy; the UI is cleaner. It's going through some growing pains, and isn't perfect, but it's worth checking out if you have the time. I'm hoping I can quit Facebook at some point, although I think that's a ways in the future for now.

Oh, if your safety shoes hurt, it may mean that they don't fit, or it may just be related to you being on your feet eight hours a day, if you weren't doing that before. It's *surprisingly* tiring, and really there's not much your shoes can do to make it better. A couple of weeks' worth of muscle tone will fix it.

If you're experiencing chafing, though, that's a different matter. For that I get plastic bandaids and place them over the parts of my foot that are chafing. That protects the skin, which toughens up as it heals. Also make sure that you aren't overstuffing the boot and making your feet too hot.

It is an awesome mix of Facebook and Twitter that has all sorts of other features. Here are some hints.

Tame your Google+ circle madness in 3 easy steps

After using Google+ for almost a year internally at Google and almost a week in the “real world”, this is the best way I’ve found to manage my circles.

Step 1: Face reality
Come to grips with the fact that you will never read EVERYTHING on Google+.

Step 2: Make circles for SHARING
Create circles of friends that you share with (e.g. Work, Family, Church). These are the circles you use to control access to the posts you write. People can be in multiple circles. For example, a coworker might also be in your photography club.

Step 3: Make a circle for READING
Decide on a few people you really want to keep up with and add them to a separate *Inbox circle. This circle has a selection of people from Work, Family, and Church. Face it, not everyone at work or in your family is that interesting. If you can’t read everything, you might as well make sure the stuff you do read is interesting. =)

> When you share something, use your “sharing” circles. Did you take a trip with your family? Share the photos with your Family circle.

> When you’re reading your stream, click on your *Inbox circle on the left side of the stream. This will give you a more manageable amount of content than the Stream link, which for many people is already a fire hose of random stuff, most of which might not be that interesting. You may want to make a couple other circles for reading different topics. I have a separate *Inbox: Photographers circle where I read a few popular photo bloggers.

Note that my inbox circles start with * so that they sort to the top of the circles list on the left side of the stream. (Except for the default circles like “Acquaintances” - I just renamed those so they don’t automatically sort to the top).

If you end up joining, add me to one of your circles. I'm there: SaudaNamir@gmail.com
The things I like a lot better than facebook: (1) Circles so I can easily share what I want to share with the right people, rather than everyone. (2) That it integrates with Picasa for photos. (3) The hangout feature so you can video chat with multiple friends as they pop in. As with anything that is user content driven, it will take time and more people to maximize its full potential.

There might be things the newcomer Google+ does better than Facebook currently, so if there are features or options that people find attractive in G+, you might expect FB to come up with something in that direction. So that competition is probably beneficial wink
I don't intend to check out or use G+ while my "circles" are in FB. And I don't really miss something that would make me want an additional social network to handle. Managing friends in lists and the privacy options might be not so easy but good enough for now smile
