I was just outside my building and I overheard a snippet of a conversation between a girl and a guy as they got into a car. I don't know what they were talking about, specifically, but we can all make an educated guess based on current pop culture. The girl alluded to a movie and complained "it was in Swedish... with subtitles" as if that was an absolute negative. She said she gave up after a while.
It sounded as if they were talking about an English-language remake, so my guess is that they were talking about Let the Right One In* and its (upcoming, I think?) American remake. I've seen the original and it was amazing.I wasn't bothered by the subtitles; I would have been bothered by a dubbed version.
It's sad that people will brush off amazing films just because they're shot in another language. The English-speaking community is not the world and does not represent the world. Don't these people understand how much they're missing out on?
