A bee stung me today!

(Or a hornet, or a wasp? I'm not really good with insect identification. All yellow and black stingy things are bees to me.)

Back on track -- I got stung! This might not seem noteworthy, but until today I'd never been stung by a bee before. Never, ever. So when I felt a sudden sharp pain in my lower back, which I likened to a little bomb exploding inside my muscles, and I got my friend to look for something wrong and she proclaimed it a bee sting, I got so excited! For a moment there I must've looked like a dog chasing her tail, except I was trying to see my lower back... that wasn't so easy. Of course soon I remembered that it was hurting and my friends told me to stop scratching it, so we iced it numb and I felt fine and pleased with my new experience of the day.

It might seem strange that I was excited, or perhaps downright stupid, but I don't care. It sucked earlier in the day when everyone was talking about bees and I was the only one who had no idea what a bee sting felt like, and it sucked all my life! Just like how it sucked getting chicken pox at age 10 when most of my friends had it between three and five, so for so long I had no idea what it was like and couldn't relate. These little things have always made me feel a bit alien, so I like when they happen and I feel that much more connected. Or at the very least, like I have something to say about the subject.

I guess it's also pretty good luck that I didn't turn out to be allergic to bee stings. wink

Where were you when I was a kid! I used to get stung all the time, you could've taken a few hits for me. tongue

I'm mildly allergic too, I swell up in the area I'm stung. I once got stung in the palm of my hand and ended up freaking out all the girls by waving my balloon hand in their faces.

I didn't get chicken pox until I was 18. Personally, I could have done without it. tongue

It's funny the things we wish we could suffer through to feel like part of the tribe. As a child, I desperately wanted braces because all the kids that got them seemed to get a lot of attention about it. Plus there was this cute girl with braces that I had a crush on. smile

It's a good thing you're not allergic indeed! I am dangerously allergic to bee stings. It's pretty terrible.

Uhm, I miss you. Come visit meeeee!

Bee stings aren't terribly painful in comparison to wasp stings. You don't want one of those. Yellowjackets are even worse. Generally bees won't sting you unless you are really annoying it, or do something fairly life-threatening like sit on it. After all, they only get one sting and then they die.

You got excited over a bee sting? You're fucked. biggrin I have been stung a few times. The most notable were: the time I got stung under my foot, and the time I got stung in the back of my mouth. I was in Polish camp, and we were eating breakfast outside.. the bee sat on my jelly sandwich and I didn't notice it. So when I took a bite the bee freaked out in my mouth and stung my gums just past my last molar. It fucking sucked dude.

Yes, that accident was just so sad.. have you been following what happened/is going to happen?

Well, bees---honeybees-- are a fuzzy brown and yellow. Black and yellow, glossy black and yellow, was probably a German yellowjacket. They're not originally from this side of the world. Look them up in Wikipedia if you're interested enuff. They got over here, I'm not sure just when, but probably in a shipment of wood, from Germany, where they are native to the area. You're fortunate it stung only once, they can sting more than once. Nasty insects. Under the right conditions, they'll even gang up on you.

Bees are just awesome. Back when I planted trees, they used to land on our arms to drink the salt. It kept some of the other bugs away for a few seconds, so we would encourage this.

I like little fuzzy honey bees, they'll only sting you if you really piss them off, and it's fun to watch them buzz around and do their thing. Wasps, on the other hand, are just jerks. Hate them! I kill them whenever given the chance.
