For my birthday, which is March first, I am selling my car and buying a motorcycle!!!! I like the style of the honda nighthawk and also the rebel. Any suggestions for bikes like that or anything else is welcome, I would appreciate it. I am also in the market for buying a mountain bike for the winter.

Well, I don't mountain bike, but I do ride a bike. wink I ride a Yamaha V-star 950 which I'd highly recommend. It has a very strong appearance, low seat height (easier to handle), enough power to get you moving but not enough to really get you into trouble. It'll provide you with thousands of miles of joy until you're ready for something bigger or it has the capability of being your lifetime bike. Check 'em out! smile

I love my bike. It's a Harley and for the price it isn't bad. zoom image

My motorcycle (my first) is a '92 Nighthawk 750. I've put a little over 6k miles on it since last July. Reasonable seat height, low maintenance, parts are readily available and reasonably priced. She hates the cold, but if you don't ride year-round like I do that's not much of an issue. You should be able to pick one up in good condition for around $2k.

Hi Xenah,

Both are great starter bikes and you really can't go wrong with either. The Harley 883 mentioned above is a great bike too, but tends to be pricier than the others. About 100 years ago I learned to ride on a Rebel and my son has a nighthawk so I have experience with both. It's really up to what you like best for style. I will send you a friend request and if I can help more just let me know. All the best!! smile

The Rebel is an awesome starter bike, but you might outgrow it quickly, especially if you do lots of freeway riding, or spend any time at all going uphill. smile

I switched from my Rebel to a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 custom within a year or so of riding, but I could feel myself wanting more power just a few months after getting my Rebel.

Depending on how careful you think you can be, I'd skip the Rebel outright, and go with something a bit bigger, and take it easy (like, REALLY easy, as it's easy to get carried away) for a few hundred/thousand miles.

Look for something older and Japanese. Reliability is always good and the old Honda, kawisaki, yamaha etc. have lower seats which are better for new riders and (typically) shorter women... and men I suppose. you really do not need anything over a 500CC bike and even a 250 will cruise good on the highway. I live in Denver and have a couple Triumphs (1979 and a 2007 Bonneville) and both will take me anywhere. Happy Birthday in advance.smile
