I feel like an old lady. I'll be 25 on Monday. A couple of you have asked me where my wishlist went, I took it down a little while ago but here is the link in case any of you feel like donating to the "what Wendy needs" fund. Most of the stuff on the list is just books that I'll need for graduate school but I added some stuff that I actually really want.

Anyway. All I want to do on Sunday night is watch the Patriots/Colts game but alas I will be completely immersed in books. I feel like I could write a Psychology GRE review book right now if I really wanted to, but I also feel like if I stop now all of the information will fall out of my brain and nothing will remain but emptiness come Monday morning. Happy Birthday to you, fucker, the exam will say. What a way to spend my birthday. Hmph.

Anyway, some questions for you avid SG frequenters:

a) skydiving and bunjee jumping. Y/N? Have you been? Where? What was it like?

b) Asia. Thailand, China, and Japan. Y/N? Have you been? If you have, give me ALL of the advice that you can take the time to print out. I'm planning a massive trip right now with my boyfriend and will greatly, greatly appreciate any and all advice you have to give us!!

Shabbat Shalom. smile

i've been skydiving. i hated it. unadulterated terror. as i free-fell (for 50 long seconds), my body decided it was dying.

as you may remember, ive been to japan. allow yourself atleast four days for tokyo and kyoto. check out kamakura for the village-with-pedestrian-only-streets experience, plus the world's largest Buddha. Nagasaki has an the world's oldest china town, and also one of the most depressing museums ever, the nuclear bomb museum. Be sure to eat the delicious sweets--the chewy "cookies" filled with sweet bean paste are so delicious, i spent over an hour searching for them on the net last night (impossible to find). definitely go see a Noh play--best place to do this is Kyoto, as it is the ancient capital, as well as the cultural capital. watch out for raw chicken--they do serve it pretty regularly, and to a "gaijin" ("foreigner"), it can be indestinguishable from fish. Don't be offended when you're not allowed into any public onsen "bath houses")--your sick tats make you impure, oops.

there's so much more to say...geez....

but i will say this. I have travelled to 13 countries and have never loved--and missed--anywhere like i do Japan.

plus the men are mad hot.

love.luz.

Thailand is amazing and beautiful. My number one piece of advice is don't just go down south to the beaches, go up north!! It is so awesome up there. You can catch the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, which is a fascinating trip - out the window you can see slums, monkeys, and the sun setting over rice paddies. Chiang Mai is full of temples, markets, great food, and if you venture a bit further north you can visit the hill tribes (DON'T go see the ring neck hilltribe though, it's a scam. They were brought over from Laos and had a fake village constructed).

I also really enjoyed Khao Sok national park. & Despite how horrendously touristy it is to get there, Ko Phi Phi is not to be missed, some of the best snorkelling I have ever done.

Have fun planning your trip!!

p/s if you go to Ao Nang skip the seafood restaurants and head to the outdoor hawker markets - oh my how delicious.

If you go to Tokyo, do a trip to Kyoto for a day or two and stay at a Ryokan, a traditional japanese inn.

And skydiving's great. You'll be proud that you dragged your ass out of a plane.

Rock on, sistah. smile

We didn't do a jeep trip, we were travelling sorta low budget plus wanted to do something a bit more grassroots. Basically we set up camp in a guest house and spent a few days wandering round Chiang Mai, then we did a three day trek through the hills (with Intrepid, I highly recommend them. They focus on ethical travel and you get a pretty good experience of the hill tribe villages etc). The elephants are pretty amazing, the volunteering sounds cool. One of the villages we stayed in had some elephants and we went for a ride then.

I definitely recommend more than a month. We wanted to stay forever smile. The only part of Thailand I couldn't wait to get away from was Bangkok, so I'd suggest not scheduling more than a few days there.

As you can see I can talk on this forever, so if you want any more suggestions feel free to PM/comment me. You're going to have an amazing time!!!

Ooh, long ass trip! Thats gonna be awesome!

Ah, you'll get into Hebrew U. If not, the paratroopers will assault the campus.

No, Havent done the massa kumpta yet. Theyve changed the training to be even harder though, so I imagine its gonna be a holocaust (as we say in the army), especially since it comes after a 9 day war week. I close shabbat at war.
