I feel like such an idiot for even writing this blog, basically I'm scared shitless. Last night as I was coming home form work (3:30 AM) I noticed a man walking around and coming towards my apartment building. I thought that this was really strange because it was the first time that I had ever seen anyone as I was coming home. I locked my door and brushed it off for a second. Curious, I went to my door to look out my peep-hole to see if I could still see him. I didn't at first, but a few seconds later I saw him walking around where my staircase starts, then he was gone again. I was still looking in my peep-hole when the next thing I knew I saw him right in outside my door (my apartment complex is set up in such a way that if you're outside my door you had to have specificially come to my apartment). I was frozen, I stood at the door for a second, scared out of my mind then, while dialing 911, I ran to my bathroom. It took the cops fifteen minutes to get there. By this point I was starting to doubt myself and what I saw but I was too scared to look out the door. Finally the cops arrived to tell me that they couldn't find him and that this was the second call they had received on him that night. I asked if they saw his footprints outside my door (it snowed last night), their response: "Oh he was definitely right outside your door." As soon as they told me that I freaked out because at that point I knew what I saw was real. The cops told me that when they came the first time to look for him they couldn't find him and that they would look around some more. They never came back. I called 911 back to see what the fuck was up, mind you I'm hysterical at this point, and the dispatcher said that they had left and the call was closed. Seriously? What the fuck?!! First off, I'm balling and why the fuck didn't they ask me if I wanted to leave or at least be escorted to my car, or ask if there was anyone I knew that would come and get me? What if he came back once they left? I was finally able to get a hold of Ron who came and got me.
Today I went to talk to my apartment complex about the situation and they told me that he tried to get into the other woman's apartment. Great, that's really comforting. I feel like Ron feels like I'm overreacting which makes me feel not only crazy but lonely. I went out and bought three different types of mase today and it still doesn't feel like enough. I feel like I can't be in my apartment at night. I feel so angry at him and myself for being such a wimp, and I feel like crying all at the same time. I feel so unsafe, every noise is freaking me out. When I was at home today I was constantly looking out my peep-hole and it scared me to death. I feel like an idiot, scared, mad, stupid, defenseless, and just...I'm just scared out of my fucking mind and that makes me so angry. I'm convinced he lives in my complex, which by the way, has security only it's shared between surrounding complexes, why the fuck weren't they there after the first call? Plus, I feel like an asshole because my cat is still at my apartment. How am I supposed to go home from work every night now? He knows where I live, what If he knows my schedule? I don't know what to fucking do. I feel like such a coward.

That's really unpleasant, you feel so violated when you can't feel safe in your own home.
Hope they get him..

Aww hun your not over reacting at all, that sounds so scary! Good idea about the mase, maybe you should get an alarm fitted on your appartment so that'll give you some peace of mind once your home and at least you'll feel a little safer.

When i'm walking home alone i always have my set of keys in my hand, sounds abit brutal but if worst come to worst and someone attacked you at least you have a weapon.

Take care smile

Since you only mentioned Ron, this might not be a realistic suggestion, but the first thing that comes to mind is grab a friend who lives near/works near, and have them move in/slumber party for the next few weeks. Which would give you time to make sure the creep got lost, and things have returned to normal. You could meet up at said friends place or work everyday, so you always arrive and leave your place together.

In the mean time, I'll hope great things for you, and terrible, terrible things for creep guy... what a bastard.

The mace was a great idea though! There is no such thing as over-reacting in my opinion, if you don't feel safe, that's all the reason you need to take action, change your environment (which you seem to have done!), take self defense classes, whatever it takes, to be comfortable, especially at home, that's where the best sort of comfort should come from. Best wishes.

Oh, one other idea, find somebody to sit the kitty for awhile, so you don't have to go to your place until you're comfortable, no reason to rush.

Okay, firstly..your not a coward. I think anyone would be fucking scared shitless if the same thing happened. I was mugged when i was 12 and spent 4 days hiding behind my curtains terrified they had my address and where going to come and get me. So that's totally normal.

See if there's anything you can do with the security company, like maybe go higher in the company and tell them people are being terrified in their homes. Any time you hear something Sus outside just call the cops. And keep calling if it keeps happening.

Do you have anyone who could stay with you? Do you have a roster at work you could maybe change around to make your head a bit better with everything?

You are not overreacting, so don't put yourself down or think anything like that. It's just going to make yourself feel worse. You have proof it happened and it happened to somewhere else. Be confident in what you saw and that it's you can prevent it from taking over your life.

I have lived in large cities all my life. It is a part of the way the world is. You have to plan for the bad , and enjoy the good. You took the first step even if you didnt think you did. You bought the mace and that is good . It is a choice not to be a victim. See if your apartment can place the rubberized half mirrors by your door . At the right angle you can see the whole area in front of the door and begin to take back your security.
Next time you feel something is going on believe your instincts . Get a good visual of the person for the cops . And baby girl take a basic self-defensive course. worse come to worse you have to get the advantage to get to safety . That means against anyone so it is always good. Believe in you . For all the beauty in the world there is also the negative.

I agree with BonnieBlu. Have a good talk with the security people there and if they're not listening go higher up. The best defense is a good ofence. it might be an idea to ask around your building (or the surrounding ones) to find out if it was just these two cases or if there were more. Then you could register a joint complaint with the police. Just having some posters up or the odd random police car drive by may be enough to deter this guy. Or if the police get a lucky break even catch him.

Just remember to be sensible, not paranoid. Fear is a natural reaction, but it is also what these guys prey on. Mace, car keys, both very good ideas, and if you can add some security to your own apartment do so (I'd recommend that to anyone though). Just never let your fear show.

Forget mace honey. That stuff only pisses people off.If ya don't want to pack a Roscoe,I suggest you get a Tazer. For about 400$ you could get one that'll knock a 350lb muscle man on his ass for 20min.

That's completely horrible. Definitely have someone stay over while you're there. Whatever happens, be safe.

You are not even remotely over reacting. A creepy mofo was lurking around outside your home... THAT IS NOT COOL! Do what ever you need to do to feel safe. If that means demanding a friend/family member/co-worker escort you home every night so be it. Feel free to demand increased security in your building, this should not be happening period.... or just call Bailey... I'd just call Bailey kiss
