My favourite of my sets, Water has been sitting in MR for almost three months and I must say that it makes me a bit confused. Looking at other MR sets and frontpage even more confused.

Is it that the recession makes people crave for safety and peace? Just like women were forced back to suburbs and the maternal role after WWII, the SG audience wants their girls pretty and innocent? There has been some great photography and modelling on the frontpage, yes, but the lack of emotional and political sets make me wonder if this is what they are looking for now.

For example, Charlie's Kinda Scary and Prussia's I want to believe showcase beauty that isn't easy. It's independent, strong and sexy but not something you could control.

The thing I despise in traditional pornography is the feeling of subjugation that has nothing to do with S/M but with the power relations in the society. Women are portrayed like mindless dolls without will of their own, something that the spectator has power over. Portrayal of the fantasy to have control over another human being.

SG in it's early days broke that pattern by creating a space for women to portray themselves in their own terms, to be subjected to the gaze and in the same time in control of it. And I'm not saying that one can't portray her/himself in a powerless way and still have control over the situation, just that the sets with opposite themes tend to be forgotten, they are not given the place to be part of site's canon.
I am fascinated by different ways of portraying women and the diversity is what matters to me. And there seems to be so little of that nowadays.

At times I hope that members' and models' opinions would matter more and create a renaissance of creative and mind-blowing sets. And on the other hand, I believe that the silent majority votes with their subscriptions... Would you like to have art challenging your perceptions or something nice and normal for your $4?

I loved your water set, just as much as the other two sets you've mentioned. I too would like to see more sets like that on the front page.

Here's hoping.

I've noticed the same thing- sets coming out now are lacking in the 'spirit' that SG is noted for. Your mentioning of the recession and its effect on perceptions of beauty is right on the mark- I forget where I read this but studies have shown that during times of recession, women with smaller eyes and more boyish figures are featured more prominently that women with curves in centerfolds. The opposite happens during times of wealth and prosperity. It is a shame how simple we can be...

I loved your Water set- it was fierce and honest. Don't loss spirit! There's so little out there, nowadays!

I ignore most of the stuff on the front page - Water caught and absorbed me, made me think and want to go back to it again. Same with Prussia and Charlie's sets. That's what I want, substance behind the surface. It's worth a lot more than four bucks.

I, sadly, have to agree all you said.

I've been so disappointed lately, to see so many sets I really dislike hitting frontpage. Why "dislike" ? I can't say the girl aren't pretty or the photo so bad. But there are just empty.

I'm not spitting on cute innocent girl set. It's nice to have something refreshing, time to time. But, damn ! As you said : SG is interesting to show a large variety of stuffs. To show women portraying themselves in a different way, pretty ones with personalities, not only mindless dollfaces. But what is different, currently ? What' is creative ? What is shaking cliches ? What is schocking ? What is mindblowing ?
Spirited, soulfull, weird sets are reduced to the smaller portion, and it makes me sad.

It's a shame to be unique, interesting and beautiful, which you are, as your zivity sets continue to showcase, but not to be appreciated, in one of the few places that should be all about diversity, is just sad.

I completely agree with you. Your water set is still one of my favorites in the present time. Everything that this website/company/agency, what have you, was built on is no longer considered "beautiful". I really hate that. I hope things will change... and soon.

i really, really loved water. the colour and photography and posing were amazing, and its ridiculous that it isnt on the front page. i thought it was an excellent set.
i dont understand why it hasnt gone up. it has a politcal undertone to it, yes, but even without that, its aesthetically gorgeous. alot of the times i dont end up looking at sets, unless they look artistic and deeper, like water.
too many plain and boring and over-done sets lately. i dont know why.

Water is an awesome set, which is the usual for you, and I agree that it's a shame is hasn't moved onto the front page. I agree with most of your points...and the sad part of it is, I think a lot of people are conditioned to think of the aesthetic you mentioned as 'pretty' or 'attractive' without really deciding for themselves. The idea that 'this cute, doll-like, essentially helpless girl is the feminine ideal' is planted in people's heads, and viewed as truth, and many people never think to question that.

word!, I strongly feel the same about everything sayd there, and there are some sets on MR that are never going to see the light and is a pity
I adore this site, but I want the staff to choose some sets with more creativity and brain...
Iknow this is not a porn site and is more like artistic photography with naked alt chicks .....and that's why some of us join in the first place so we hope is going to be this way in the future too

I agree with you!
But I also think it has to do with the timing of the set and when it goes up. There was a time that soooo many hopeful sets were going up that it is hard to keep up.

I think they need to keep hopefuls (girls who aren't sgs yet) and suicide girls )who set is in review) separate on the front page.
Sometimes, there are some weird glitches on this site. There have been a few times that it wont let me view sets.

I think that it is sick that they pretty much use everyone's sets and make money off them and you can not make shit but your pictures stay up. But I also understand logistics of it

I love how sg seems to fit all the cliches of everything they claimed to hate. (aka popularity contest)

But yet, I still love sg. I love the community and I love the art.

I have been on the site since 2002 so I see the HUGE changes and I understand where you are coming from.
