I just spent 4 hours on Wikipedia after watching Braveheart. I think it's time I do something. That being said,

Who is your favourite historical figure and why?

Just curious.

Mine is Marie Antoinette. I really think she was ahead of her time, and misjudged far too quickly.

c'est tout.

General Grant and General Lee! And Abraham Lincoln.

(I was reading a Civil War era-story recently).

I think about that time in history a lot. I was just reading The D'Artagnan Romances by Alexandre Dumas.

... it's not so much admiration of murder than the originality of it. He was a brutal man living in brutal times. His father (the king of Qin) was assassinated when he was 5. Huang himself survived several attempts on his life, the first of which was shortly after his father's murder. Despite all of his adversities he still managed to destroy his enemies by being more ruthless than they could ever be. He went on to conquer the warring kingdoms and unite them under one China...

Going back a couple of centuries it would be Giordano Bruno, and farther back to the beginnings of civilization Gilgamesh (talk about bad-ass), but my all-around favorite is Richard Feynman.

vlad the impaler for giving us dracula of course XP

but in all seriousness, the lowly peasants and infinite unnamed persons who make the world go round every day. yeah, the famous people all did big things, but at the end of the day, if it wasn't for that little guy baking your bread or making your car run or delivering your packages (which may or may not contain the patent for the next great leap in technology) we'd never get anywhere in life. never overlook the little guy.

Miyamoto Musashi, he was an undefeated warrior and scholar. His book The Five Rings is still read and used as a stategy and buisness guide today. He was a ronin and refused to bow to any master and fought many duels to the death beacase of it. Most of all he followed the beat of his own drum and left the world in confusion after his death.

Yes we are. Thinking about it now I could've said Sean Connery or Billy Connolly, probably the most famous Scotsmen. Have you ever visited Scotland? It's such a beautiful country. I may be a bit biased but it's true biggrin

Hitler: i know it's bad and everything....but if you just look at him from a psychological viewpoint..it's very very interesting. i could talk about him for hours.

and Louis XIV did not "just want to be loved" he thought god appointed him ruler of all of france. he thought he was responsible only to "god". doesn't sound like a emo kid at heart to me
