(Also, thank you for all of your concern and well wishes for Scott).

NIGHTMARE ON VASECTOMY STREET.

So, we have two kids. My husband was pretty clear when we had Bob that he thought two kids were the right number for him. I wasn’t sure I wanted more than one. As an only child and a new mother, I just could not picture having enough love for two children. And then we got pregnant again and I soon learned that what people say is true. Your love DOES multiply and not divide. Totally awesome. After Maggie was born people would ask me how many I thought we’d have and I would say twelve, we’ve got to try to keep up with our Amish neighbours. (Har, har). Or that Scott wants two and I want four, and we’re going to split it and have three.

But Scott still wanted just two. And I, having had a really hard time with my hips during my pregnancy with Maggie (I was unable to walk or lay down for a good chunk of my pregnancy) as a result of a Relaxin Overload felt that it would be selfish of me to go for more kids if it meant that I could be incapacitated for several months and unable to properly care for my two beauties.

We did a little bit of research and talked to a few people about vasectomies. It seemed like it would be a very easy procedure and that a lot of the people who had complications did things like move a piano or bone the day of the operation. You only have something like a 3% chance of having a rough go of it, or so the rumor went.

Well lucky us, as Scott got to be one of those lucky 3 in 100.....

After a lot of emotional discussion, Scott went in for his vasectomy on Monday, January 12th. He came home, and followed doctors orders and friends advice and took it easy. Laid on the couch all day, did not exert himself. He was feeling pretty sore by the end of the day and before bed he took a peek.

Not what he was expecting to see. His package was so badly bruised that it looked as though someone had coloured them in with a Sharpie. From abdomen to asshole, the bruising was solid black. And the swelling around his balls was... formidable. And there was a hard lump forming, not a small one either. And pain. Serious amounts of pain.

Scott got a post surgical hematoma. He had a little bleeder still drizzling when he was sewn up. Since the scrotum likes to stretch, it did just that and accommodated a fairly significant amount of blood before there was enough pressure for the bleeding to stop.

He still has this thing. A lump that stretches from his abdomen & behind one testicle, giant, sore and VERY hard. Supposedly it was supposed to start softening up and getting reabsorbed by his body at day 10, but it is like day 17 now and it’s not budging yet.

Over two weeks off of work. Multiple doctors appointments, ultrasound appointment, trip to the specialist. Ice packs, Percocet, antibiotics and a lot of frustration, remorse and worry. Not exactly what we had planned or budgeted for.

Scott just went back to work today. If he worked a job that involved labour (like the guy doing our roof right now who had a similar problem with his vasectomy) we would have had to file for short term disability, no question. I know he’s having a rough go of it, as sitting forward in his chair puts a lot of pressure on the clot. Who knows when he’s going to feel up to having sex again, since any movement of his testicles makes him double over.

If we had known about the frequency with which complications like these can happen (it has got to be more than 3%, as once we started talking to friends about this experience, everyone seemed to know someone with a similar story) we would have looked into other options (like laser vasectomy) or simply decided to use natural family planning methods as long term birth control. We are so plainly anti-Western medicine and this experience has only reinforced our feelings.

Here is a small, well cropped image of the bruising.

Meet Daisy the Demoted Hunting Dog.

She's been living in a barn, then living in a crate for the last number of months. She came to us on Boxing Day. She is a good girl. Someone at some point has taught her to sit and she's eager to do it for food or affection. She doesn't crap in the house, eat our cats or bother the kids. Shes 2 years-ish.

But she is a noodle of a dog and can get food off of the far corners of the counter. Any training tips for counter surfers?

How about other "how to let your dog know you're the boss" tips?
As well as food aggression tips (Puppers, who is 4lbs and free feeds tries to get in her bowl and she has drawn a little blood).

Any budding dog whisperers out there care to give me some advice?

I think about the Phoenix Sinclair case a lot and have done so for quite some time. It's one of those things that creeps up on it's own, without warning.

So. For those of you unfamiliar with the case, I'll sum it up. For those of you who don't want to feel saddened, outraged and disgusted in the next two minutes and for an indeterminable amount of time to come, pick a different blog to read today.

Phoenix Sinclair. Five year old little girl from a reserve in Manitoba, Canada. Killed in 2005, at the hands of her mother and step father. She had been severely abused by her 'parents'. Her little body had sustained so many injuries, the coroner stated they were the equivalent of injuries sustained during a severe traffic accident. Numerous broken bones left untreated. Beaten with a metal rod. Shot with a pellet gun for "the hell of it" (said her older brother). Infected wounds left untreated. Her head was shaved and she went days without clothes. She was subject to starvation. Endured horrible verbal abuse. Stomped on until she just stopped crying. I would imagine that would have been until she passed out. Choked into unconsciousness while her mother looked on, laughing at their "game of chicken" (chicken because she would twitch on the floor in her blackout). Made to eat her own vomit. Forced to live in a blanket in the garbage filled basement, which had no heat. It was on that cold floor that she died, naked.

They wrapped her in plastic and left her in a shallow grave when she finally succumbed.

And then they applied to receive child welfare in her name.

Exhale.

Child and Family Services took her out of a safe foster home and gave her back to her mother and a step father with a history of violence against his ex-wife. Step daddy's ex-wife knew Phoenix was missing and her two older brothers knew she had been killed and discarded. It took nearly 10 months for anyone to notice and do anything. Her mother and father have been sentenced to life in prison. It's not enough.

There is a lot wrong with the picture, but absolute guilt clearly lays on the heads of her so called care givers. I don't think they're going to have any punishment in 'living with what they've done' as they clearly just don't get it. I don't think tax payers should have to pay for three squares a day for the pieces of shit she had to call parents. I don't think Samantha Kematch or Karl McKay deserve to live another comfortable minute in this world. I can only hope that the next piece of news I hear on that wretched couple is that they've expired in a messy fashion in prison.

A phone call doesn't take up much time.

If you suspect abuse, call.

If you continue to suspect abuse, call again.

If you have children, please treat them with respect. If you are not capable of doing so, let professional services find someone else who will.

If you have a loving home, please consider fostering or adopting a child.

Anyone who can tell me how to remove a series of trucks and cars (example below) from my leather couch and chair shall receive.... a whole lot of sincere gratitude.

I have tried the almond all natural leather cleaner we use.
I have tried the chemical cleaner that came with the couch.
I have tried tea tree oil on a cotton swab (which did lighten it a bit).
I have tried hairspray & perfume.

I stink and so does my living room.

HELP PLEASE!
