But if you're staying out of the city and just doing desert camping that should be a good time.
Make sure you take warm stuff for night time. It tends to cool down more than you think.

You should have a good sleeping bag ( in case it gets cold at night ), blow-up mattress, flashlight ( battery OR crank LED ), warm clothes, possibly a water-proof jacket. That's just a basic list. Oh yeah, a good tent too.

Definitely a sleeping bag and something to lie on and things that will help keep you cosy. And wet wipes. And dry shampoo. x

The other entries covered a lot, except for one key item; Toilet Paper.
The weather has been ok lately. It has been getting a little chilly in the evening, so a hoodie and some jeans are a good call. I would recommend a tent, to help keep any critters from snuggling next to you in the night. Definitely have a flashlight, and WATER. I can't stress that one enough. Bring plenty of water.

FLASHLIGHT!!! necessity!!! i like the ones that double as a lantern and flashlight. will you be tent camping? if so, it may be wise to bring some sort of padding to go under your sleeping bag. it will be much more comfortable then rocks and twigs and bumps and lumps.

the desert gets cold at night, so bring warmer clothing. also, bug spray if you are really allergic to mosquitos.
sunblock, plenty of water, and t.p.....above someone wrote wet wipes...great idea. haha, especially if there is no campsite facility. if so, hold your breath.

Is it backwoods camping or at a set up site? Either way, bring toilet paper! Lots of water, especially in Cali. Hot hot hot. Tents, because if you're using a RV, it's not camping. I have a whole list of things you could need, but if you're just camping in a popular spot, (as opposed to setting up camp then going hiking all day), then its not needed. Get an extra battery for your phone. Big help if the other one dies and then someone gets hurt.

Without bothering to look, I'm going to assume a) you've already left, and b) everyone before has probably done you a solid in the advice column. So, have fun and get drunk or something similar, because what's the point of 'enjoying nature' if you're not high off your ass?

Mosquito repellent, flashlight, an extra pair of socks are a few things that come to mind.

toilet papier and water.
