guess who decided to quit smoking today. i'll give you a hint, their name starts with a TH and ends with an URSDAY.
mhm today's the day.
hadn't smoked a single cigarette before i went to my exercise science class, and tossed my pack afterwards.
of COURSE i knew smoking is bad. the lecture today which helped me make this decision told me much that i already knew.
the thing that made the difference was that i had managed to convince myself that the badness of smoking would wait until i was old and wretched anyway. newp.
our lecturer wasn't into shock value. there was only one gnarly lung picture and one guy sans lower jaw. what caught my attention was how old the people in the two personal stories were, and how long they had smoked.
one boy was dead, another woman could hardly breathe. they were both around my age, and what REALLY freaked me out, they both had used tobacco products for fewer years than i have to date.
SCARY SHIT
i've been thinking about quitting smoking for quite some time now, and this was kind of the straw that broke that camel's back. i'm not too thrilled about having my tongue hacked away at because of some gnarly ass tumor. in fact, if i get cancer later i'm going to be VERY PISSED OFF WITH MYSELF.
one other fact that caught my ear was a quote by some upper muckitty muck in the tobacco industry, let me paraphrase: 'do we smoke the shit? no, we just sell it. smoking is for the poor, the young, blacks and the stupid'.
i REFUSE TO BUY A MERCEDES FOR THAT ASSHOLE. amen.
