Here is an iphone video of me shooting Mr_Reliable's Kimber 1911. The sound is terrible because guns are too loud for the little microphone.

Shooting is fun! I can't wait to go again.

I had a Colt 1911 National Match Gold Cup in bright stainless steel once upon a time. Sold it before I moved back to CA. Gosh I loved that pistol.

Back when I lived in Arizona I occasionally took people to the range to shoot pistols for the first time. Usually the women shot better. smile

I'm glad you enjoyed the range time. I had more than 20 handguns in the safe before I picked up a 1911. Now I understand why people like them so much.

Next time, rotate your left hand up so that the index finger is a bit over the middle finger of your right hand and your thumbs are in about the same place. It helps support the gun just as well as "teacupping" it, but also helps control recoil.

Nice!

I have a Kimber 1911 too, and I'm a big fan. I do need to get out to the range more though.

I have a SIG P228 (a 9mm medium-frame pistol very similar to the 229). I've put a whole LOT of ammo through it. SIGs are great pistols. They feel good and sound good. I also had a P229 in SIG 357 (got sold at the same time as the Gold Cup). It was quite accurate for a factory semi auto (more accurate than the P228 anyway) although not as accurate as my Gold Cup was ... but the Gold Cup was bigger and longer so you would expect that.

I also have a 6" S&W 686, from the mid 90s with the 6-shot cylinder (they went to 7 after a while). I used to load my own .38 Special wadcutters to shoot in it. The thing was/is creepily accurate even with open sights, and with .38 Special ammo in a somewhat hefty pistol there is essentially no recoil and not that much noise. You might like something like that too. And if you don't mind (or prefer) the weight of a full-size revolver, you can always change the grips on it if the factory grips are too large.

Handgun marksmanship is a fun hobby. It's quite difficult to become good at it, and satisfying once you are.

Being Canadian, I can't officially endorse gratuitous firearm discharge, but damn...that looks like fun. wink

I hope it turns out. If you ever make it this way during brew season I'll happily share.
