Men's Grooming Products

About a year ago I started shaving with a safety razor which Matt was no longer using (he has another one with a shorter handle that he uses now). I like how cheap the blades are and how close the shave is, and I like that it forces me to be more careful and go slower so I don't open myself up and bleed all over the sink. I shave my legs, underarms, and ladygarden at the bathroom sink.

Figure A: safety razor

Yesterday I needed to shave my legs but had run out of the natural ingredients, moisturizing, no-aerosol shaving cream that I had been using. So I decided to try Matt's shaving soap and badger shaving brush.

Figure B: Matt's exact brush and soap

HOLY MOLY. I don't understand how, but switching to soap and a brush made a HUGE difference. Much closer, more comfortable shave, longer lasting result, and so much less bad side effects like redness and dry skin. I am fucking sold. Sorry*, boyfriend, I'm going to use up all your shaving soap. On my business.

*my boyfriend does not mind at all - he likes me to use his grooming stuff blush

Good lord yes, I've been using men's razors for years. I will never understand why women's razors are so expensive and also so crap. Perhaps I should try a brush and soap, too.

I feel like I might die trying...but, I totally want to try that razor. The replacements for my fackin' quattro are SO expensive it drives me nuts.

Am i the only person who feels cheated here? All this talk of a closely shaven set of legs and ladygarden and no pictures to prove it? I'm beginning to suspect someone might be advertising The Art Of Shaving.

So..pics or it didn't happen, my dear. whatever

Well, I'll take Thistle at here word on this one. I've never used safety razor, but I have used a straight edge with all the accoutrements, and that produces a breathtakingly close and excellent shave. So keep it up, Thistle. You've discovered one of our "man secrets." Do what any woman in this situation would do: exploit it! tongue

My daily shaving is done with an adjustable Gillette Slim from the 1960's with Derby blades, which cost about $20 for 100 on eBay. It works very well.

Shaving with a straight razor gives great results too, but it is not easy on some parts of my face, where the hair grows at an awkward angle, and keeping the blade sharp is not an easy skill.

But both of these methods are cheap and they avoid ingrown hairs!

I wish to thank you. Deeply. For commenting and especially for sharing and reading that little rant of mine.

It's good that it reached someone. Appreciate it.

Also I have yet to try one of those blades. I'm a slave to the Gillette corporation. bok

No, actually that's doing a lot, and really the fact that you were one of like two people to redirect others there was brilliant. If a single person chose to click and read then it's even better.
