Why, I awoke during a sermon,

not the first like this,

my cassock giving shade to my

silhouette

my admiration for this other

silhouette.

Damn, why does this grab my attention?

Why do I desire to be attentive?

Why this silhouette?

But not another?

To be shaded by this,

I shiver thinking of this joy,

all at once my whole frame is cool,

truly, no hyperbole.

Yet I give shadow by part of me

to another – part of me…

shiver, ‘Damn,’ I’m beside myself,

not what I covet.

I’d love to hear the words, ‘Oh God,’

perhaps with, ‘Lord have mercy,’

sprinkled between hard to catch breaths,

baptized by beads of sweat equity.

‘Damn,’ beside myself.

The best part of the homily?

When it is finished,

no more need to hear unacknowledged hyperbole.

I prefer a clear view of a

silhouette.
