So Martha Stewart is doing a little survey on her Twitter (of course I follow her!) about bed linens.

She is asking people how many sets they own and how often they change them. It got me thinking..."how often is one supposed to change their bed linens??" I did a search to see what other people were answering her and the majority of answers seem to be every 4 days to once week.
Okay.
Let's be real people.

I am a total neat freak and I only change my sheets maybe every other week. Sometimes....I let it go to three weeks. (eeep!)
But!!! I don't have pets, i don't spend time lounging in bed (heck, I hardly spend time sleeping in it) and when I have sex, I put a towel down underneath of us cause I don't want anything to get on the sheets. (maybe too much info there but I believed it necessary for this rant.) So I think changing them bi-weekly is enough for a clean freak like myself. At least, it has worked out okay so far
.
So how is it that all these women (BUSY women with lots of kids, jobs, obligations, etc) are changing their bed linens every single week and sometimes every single DAY?? (By the way. these are the same women who purchase only "green" cleaning products and organic food...but they apparently don't give a crap about water and energy conservation?? Figures.) Seriously, not ONE person put anything more than two weeks between linen changes and the vast majority wrote every single friggin week!!
I just find this hard to believe. I mean, I have been in other peoples' homes and I have yet to find any cleaner than mine. When I say I'm a neat freak....I am dead serious. I label, organize, clean, sanitize all friggin day long because I work from home a lot and I have the time and ability to do this. Most people do not have that luxury, which is why I would never begrudge someone for having a messy house. I know that it just isn't always possible.

Sooooo....unless every one of Martha Stewart's followers are crazier and more obsessive compulsive than I am....there can be only one other possibility:

They are all a bunch of friggin liars. (<-----most likely explanation.)

Sure, I'll believe that -some- people are bigger neat freaks than myself and may have been telling the truth. But my guess is that the vast majority are just telling Martha (and themselves) what they *ideally* would like to be doing.
It is like when you are driving on the highway and a cop pulls onto the road. Everyone slows down to the speed limit and acts like they were doing it all along. That is, until the cop turns onto an exit and then everyone speeds back up to 70 mph. Except in this linen scenario, Martha Stewart is the cop.
Get it???

Sooooo....now that Martha is not looking (I find it unlikely she has an SG membership so I'm pretty sure the coast is clear)....

How often do you guys really change your bed linens?????

Honest answers please!

Excellent rant. I change them about once every 2 weeks. And I with you on the towel thing. Very practical!

I change mine once a week, but I'm a neat freak too and that's the way everyone in my family does it. I don't think that's the norm for most people though. When I brought this up with friends most of them said they do like once a month or later.

When I lived with my grandmother I was forced to wash them once a week. Now that I live with my boyfriends parents and most likey should wash them every day (we have 2 dogs that sleep with us) I wash them once, sometimes twice a month. On the other hand my comforters get washed (unless there is an animal accident) every two weeks. When I lived alone and was working fulltime I barely had time to sleep yet alone wash the linens; they got done when I had the time or my roommate did them.

My husband changes the bed we sleep on every two to four weeks. We have all black linens and they show everything, so I should probably change them more often... -But he does most of the housework, and I think if I changed them more often he'd feel insulted. The beds we don't sleep on I only change right before we have company (unless the cats have a hairball on them or something confused ).

I would say about once a month and I’m with you, I’m sure those people are lying, there is no way that everyone is a neat freak.

But I sure wish I worked from home, my place sure would be a lot neater that is for sure.

I change the sheets about every 3 weeks unless I have company and get them dirty. If I'm by myself, I shower every night before I get in the bed, cause I leave at 5 am. cat sleeps on her blankie ont allowed on the sheets.

My mother was one of those weirdos who changed them every week if not more. She was so antsy about it!

I usually change them every month. I know, I am bad. But all action the sheets get is me sleeping on them 6 hours a day, if that.

At best every month, although sometimes up to six weeks between washes. No pets on the bed, just us, so the sheets don't get *too* dirty.

every two weeks, plus the towel thing. towels also every two weeks (except gym towel & bed towel--those get washed at once) unless there's accidents involving human(s) or cat(s) or both.

I think Martha's whole schtick is to get people to worry and/or be smug about their normal-ass life style choices. I know a lot of women friends that love her stuff, but it makes me shudder worse than a horror flick...

Once every month because I rarely sleep on sheets but on comforters on top of the sheets/linens and I replace the comforters about 2 weeks if things are normal.
