My tattoo artist friend Jeff just opened a new shop in West Hollywood right next to the Pleasure Chest and he's giving 25% off to SG members and models! He does piercings, too!

If you're interested give him a call 323/744.0749 or shoot him an email jeff.nightmare@gmail.com, and be sure to let him know that Sita sent you!

I had one of the best nights of my life in Hollywood last night! I'm just now recovered from it.
I love rock music. I love live music. More than that, I love the local scene.
In San Francisco I lived a stone's throw from some decent dives. One of my favorite spots was Kimo's. What I loved about it was the first floor was a gay bar, and the second floor was a punk dive. On pretty much any given night I could head over, sip Hennessy downstairs with the flamers, then go upstairs and chase shots of Jack with $2 PBRs with the rockers.
Most of all, I loved the line ups. The guy in charge of booking (Reverend Boom King!!) would mash it up. I could go in there and on the same bill there'd be California Cookie Monster death metal, Japanese Surf Rock (really truly from Japan) and a rap/rock act out of New Mexico. Now, some people might quibble with something like that, but I loved the variety. I loved meeting the bands afterwards and learning about how they got together, how they wrote and rehearsed together, how the tour was going. I admired the fact that they loved what they did enough to nut up, gear up and go on the road.
As some of you may know, I've also spent some time in Central Valley California. Stockton, specifically. That place is pretty dry when it comes to a local music scene, but that doesn't mean there isn't talent there. I was always ready to carpool or caravan to get others to shows in Sacramento and Modesto. Willing I'd get behind bands, if they needed someone to help them sell merch, go grassroots with their street team, help get radio play. Whatever. If I love something I want to share it with everyone I come into contact with. No problem!
Warner Drive is one such band that I think everyone should know about.
Now, I'll further preface this by saying that prior to hearing the band play, I'd met them. I accidentally ended up at one of the guy's houses one night.
What happened was... I'd intended to go to a fundraiser for Haiti, but my printer was on the fritz so I couldn't get my ticket. Finally, I call a friend who lives down the street and ask if he'll please print my ticket for me so I can go. He agrees and when I come over to pick it up he tells me, "You know this ticket is for Tuesday night, right?" Curses! I'd -- scatterbrain that I am -- calendered the event on the wrong date! Here it was a Thursday night and I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go. Thankfully, he suggests I go out to dinner with him and some friends. I agree and find, as we arrive, that this dinner is at someone's house!
Part of the way through dinner I find out whose house it is and that he, along with most of the guys in attendance, are all musicians. Really cool guys. Sure, they spent most of the time geeking out on venues and equipment, which was way over my head. But aside from that they're all very fun with great attitudes and I was glad to have met them.
I haven't gone out to shows as often in Hollywood as I have in other cities. Sure, when I first got to LA, I was always on The Strip. Three or four nights out of the week I was at the Rainbow, Roxy, Viper, Cat Club, Key Club. I even played a few gigs singing back up in a cover band. When most of my friends started scaling back and sobering up, I just stopped going out as much.
Thankfully, I met the guys from Warner Drive to pull me out of my slump. The next time they played in LA, I decided to go. I made sure not to listen to any of their music beforehand. I wanted to go in pure... I've had several acts that I loved on CD who didn't perform well live and that's always a crushing disappointment. Take it from me, WD is NOT that kind of a band. On the contrary. The first time I saw them perform, I wished I'd listened to their music beforehand so I could've sang along with the songs! They're incredibly high energy, especially for an act that plays as often as they do. You'd swear each night was their first stop on the tour. It's infectious. Addictive. Every time I see them play I am instantly ready to see them all over again. The music is danceable, the lyrics are contagiously crafty... I saw them last night and woke up with one of their songs still playing in my head.
The point I'm trying to make is GO SEE THEM when they're in your city.

You may have already seen them on tour with CKY, or at SXSW or Warped.

Am I getting too old for this?
Is there such a thing as being too old for anything?
I recently turned 29. No one believes me when they ask my age and I tell them. Hell, even people who've known me for years don't believe it. One of my friends came to town to visit me and we went to see Babyland perform. I was dancing around like a fool when he looks at me and says, "I cannot believe that you are 29.
I party too much. Sure, not as much as I used to and not as often... I guess maybe I can say that I binge party? I left on Friday night at at around 10 p.m. and just got back home two hours ago. It was fun! I had a great time. Actually, I spent most of yesterday at someone's house, holed up most of the day in a bedroom by myself with a big screen TV and a housekeeper bringing me food and drinks thinking to myself, "Why do I have to leave? Can I just start bringing my things here instead? Can me and my cats just please come live here?" The guy was really nice, though and I went up to his room before I left this morning to thank him for indulging me in his hospitality. He was getting ready to head to the office and says, "Oh, I forgot you were here! Would you like coffee?" Then calls the housekeeper on the intercom to bring n coffee. ACK! I didn't want to go!!!
Then I get home and Ron Jeremy calls me. He just got back from a film fest in Philly and wanted to hang out for a bit. He was supposed to be at one of the parties I went to but since he was out of town he wanted me to give him all the gory details.
And I told him about the St. Paddy's day party I'm going to when he says, "How do you know about that party? I'm going to that party, too!" Rad. He brought me presents, too.
Now one of my friends is all pissy with me because my phone died while I was out and about and I of course didn't have my charger because I of course didn't anticipate being gone for so looooooooong.....
About the Persian whose hair I brushed almost completely out of her. She's my friend's cat. She LOVES being brushed so I brushed her. And brushed her. And brushed her. I finally ask my friend, "Hey! If I keep brushing will all of her fur come out... because there is a lot of fur coming out...." She said no, so I kept brushing and the cat, every time I stop to clean the brush starts nudging at me and the brush so I keep brushing until I notice she's got not so much hair anymore. In fact, in some spots I can see her skin. Uh... oops? I didn't know!! Now she wears a little t-shirt.
I'm hungry.

Doot doot doot! How is everyone's New Year so far?
I started a new job as a sales rep. It's my first time back to being chained to a desk in... over 5 years, I'd guess. And, it's a commission only position, which is a little terrifying, but highly motivating! It's just what I need. Plus, the owner is super sweet and very good about giving me constructive criticism to help me boost my sales. Yay! Oh, and he's H-H-H-Hot!!!
One of my neighbors owns a company distributing skin care products and he gave me a tube of this stuff called Burn B Gone. Let me tell ya -- that stuff is the shit! It's worked on pretty much any skin condition I've had. I guess -- and this is just do to the name -- it was initially used for burns... but it's minimized stretch marks, acne scars, lessened breakouts to begin with and minimized the appearance of a scar I've had on my thigh since I was six frickin' years old. And, since I got three kittens, I tend to get scratched a lot. I pop some of that Burn B Gone on it and it heals up almost as if it was never there. We happy!
So, of course I'm gonna pimp him out here -- check this: Promise Skin Solutions. He's recently started introducing tattoo artists to the product for aftercare. Since it minimizes scabbing and completely absorbs into the skin, the colour doesn't bleed out and it heals faster! Clicky Clicky!
I have even considered marketing the product on my own, that's how much I like it. But, one thing at a time. I already got a sales gig.
I'm having a birthday in a couple weeks. Poop.
Oh yeah, and I haven't been around much because my lappy top broke. Second one in under a year! Well, my last one took a nasty spill (of a wine spritzer into the keyboard
) and my most recent one overheated to the point of possibly warping the hard drive, so it won't boot up anymore.
Okay, bye!
