Circumcision - If you were having a son would you do it?

The national average is about 30 percent. I'm from the midwest where it's most popular, but I'd like to know more opinions.

I don't think I want to do it.

My son is circumcised. When I had him I was young and just kind of did what ever my doctor wanted with out doing my own research or really thinking for myself. Now that I am older and have read about it more I think I would still do it, but that's just me.

So random i know this but years ago i came across a study that stated a large percentage of men get it reversed at a older age.
personally i wouldn't do it.

Both of my sons are circumcised. I had reservations just because I didnt want to subject my boys to such a procedure at that young age. But I have a couple friends who had it done as adults due to their own preferences with aesthetics and such....and it was far more painful at that age then it was at the baby stage so. I'd do it again.

I wouldn't. I've told you my reasons in other places but I would also like to add that it isn't dirtier, unlike most people think. A lot of people say "Well he won't remember it then so do it so he won't have to worry about it later on in life" Um, no. Most of the time they don't need to get it done later on in life. I actually had a friend who had to have it done at 16 because he simply didn't take care of his stuff so he got an infection a couple of times and they elected to circumsize him so it wouldn't happen anymore. He told me a few times how he wished he would have just washed it and wouldn't have had the procedure done because having it was so much better. I get that in the US it is pretty popular, but why? Though I do stand behind you whatever you decide because it is a personal thing.

i would definately NOT do it!! Mutilating your kids genetials so they look "normal" to societies standards... I think its kinda fucked...

although there are some health risks and risks that teenage girls wont wanna blow him
when i asked my mom what she thought, she said the sons should be like the fathers or some shit...

and i had a male friend who said that all you need to do to keep it healthy is have a man teach him how to clean it correctly and you wont have any problems...

but yeah im from the midwest and ive seen lots of weeners and only a few uncircumsized ones...

dare to be different!

It's a completely personal thing. I know of nothing else that really needs to be said.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

In my own case, yes.

It's a permamnt altering of your child's body that they can not consent to. Babies can die from complications and it can cause permanent damage to a very sensitive area. Many insurance companies no longer cover it as they see it as an elective procedure. I did not circumsieze my son and know very few moms who do it once they do even a small amount of research on it. The skin is there to protect the sensitive nerves on the head of the penis. Exposing those nerves and skin can cause them to loose their sensitivity and make sexual encounters less pleasurable when they grow up.

If you do decide to leave him as he was made you treat it like a finger and don't ever, ever retract him or let any health care provider do it either. Doing so will cause pain and possible infection and tearing of the skin. The skin will retract in it's own before puberty.

My son is. I think it came down to so many people being circumcised that I didn't want him to run into a situation with a girl, later in life, where she thought it was weird, and he gets all insecure about it. That was my main reasoning. Not doing it leaves it natural and supposedly it's much more sensitive, which would be interesting.

My husband is not circumsized. Because the head is so sensitive, I can only give him head for so long and only at certain angles or it causes him pain. Serious pain. As his partner I don't mind the extra skin (even though I HAVE to hold it back during head or stop him during sex and retract the skin so I can feel the movement) and I have never thought less of any guy who wasn't "cut." I can say that at age 28 his peers still give him hell for it. He was made fun of during basic, and still gets a hard time from the guys when they're in the field and he has to pee around them. He's shy about it, and was afraid for me to see him naked for the longest time. He said that if we have a son, he'll have his son circumsized. Not to mention that he has to work harder to keep extra clean or I get UTIs. What normally keeps him from infection isn't enough for me.

I have two boys and I fought with their father about not having them circumcised. I won and they are both intact and now in their early 20's and both are happy they are intact and that I stood my ground on the issue.

I wasn't circumcised. It's never been a problem for me, except for one things: foreskins and condoms aren't very compatible. Personally I think involuntary body mods are a bad idea, but it wasn't done to me, so it's hard for me to get worked up about it. I have a friend who was circumcised badly who has some pain from it, but he still has a pretty happy sex life, so again it's hard to really draw any conclusions from that.

I'd say if you're inclined not to do it, don't do it.
