Hi. I'm not sure where to start since I've been absent for so long. I'm not even sure if anyone is still out there. If not, I understand.

I guess I can summarize what I have been doing since we last spoke:

1. Obsessing over the democratic primaries.
2. Agonizing over grad school applications and interviews. I am almost done, I only have 1 interview left. I go to New Haven next week, after which I will have to make a final decision. Oh, and I will be getting an MFA in Graphic Design.
3. Waiting for the sun.
4. Working.
5. Self-medicating with copious amounts of wine.
6. And therapy. I go to therapy.
7. Feeling old.
8. My computer broke and got fixed and broke and got fixed. And then I fell asleep 2 nights ago with it on my bed and it crashed to the floor during the night, so, although it is technically fixed, it's kinda broken again. I think it's revolting.
9. Not cleaning my room, but often refusing to make plans or go out because I should clean my room.

That's all I can think of right now. Maybe I made it sound like I am depressed. I'm not especially depressed, so don't you guys worry.

What do you do when you get home from work? I still feel maladjusted to this divide between work and not work, or work and play. I'm not sure how to play when I get home from work so maybe if I understand what other people do, I can borrow.

I really believe that cleaning your room is really quite overrated. Also along a similar line, since i am sitting in front of a computer, drink vodka and orange juice, with my room in shambles, I don't entirely buy that everything is daises. As for what you do when you get off work I generally go for starting to cook dinner, though its not the most exciting, with some good music playing and the thought of having good food it can be enjoyable.

Does there need to be a border between work and play? I think the very concept of that lends to making work tedious.

I've been doing lots of not cleaning also. I think the time has come though.

I mainly work from home, so I can't really help you - I just spend all my time in a bathrobe...

I missed you my dear. xo

Dear, your life sounds like it is becoming more like mine, though I shun the therapy. Best advice: assign a significant other or best friend with the task of making you go out at least once a week. Other than that, I don't think you can avoid the workaholicism. It's probably in your blood.

I will say one thing helps me relax. Planning really elaborate, bizarre meals and forcing myself to procure the ingredients, figure out how to put everything together and eat with a glass of wine. Sure the meal isn't ready until ten or eleven, but the process is the goal. It's meditative for me, but without the guilt of feeling like I'm doing nothing.

Welcome back.

I've been obsessing over the Democratic primaries too. This Obama speech yesterday was a bombshell and it finally raises the level of dialogue again. I was so disappointed with the schoolyard nonsense going on between him and HIllary for the past month.

I've always had a hard time balancing work and free time too. I work freelance so I sometimes have a few weeks where I'm not working at all. But when I am working I work about 16 hour days and so I obsess about not getting enough exercise, sleep, etc. I also want to go out and have some fun. It's been hard to do. I've been doing this for a while and I haven't quite figured it out yet.

But I do know that sometimes you just take the moments when you can get them. That's all I've learned.

So tell me about the grad school applications and such. Where are you applying?

My post-work routine unfortunately revolves too much around TV. I'll usually start with Cash Cab from 6 to 7 and News Hour with Jim Lehrer from 7 to 7:30. Jeopardy from 7:30 to 8. From there I flip among various news channels, obsessing over the Democratic primaries like you. I'll usually try to catch a rerun of Keith Olbermann. After that, I'll try to catch up on whatever I've TiVo'd. That used to be The Wire and Dexter, but this week it's John Adams. Exciting right? Are you still awake?

No, this actually sounds like pretty good stuff, overall.

I have a bit of a dilemma about how to best occupy myself after work as well. Too tired to work on the house, sick of watching political stuff for the time being (besides, they changed around the times on Countdown), and I need to take a break on the drinking. What do I do? Very confusing stuff.
