I finally had another sleep paralysis episode last night! Complete with a (mostly) out-of-body experience and everything. "I loved it!"
I was super tired, dozing on the couch around 2:30am, when the familiar paralysis sensations came on. The instinct is to fight it and wake up immediately, which I began to do. But it wasn't as intense as previous episodes, so I was able to remember to relax and go with it.
As soon as I relaxed, everything brightened, and I could see around the room, although I knew my eyes were closed. There was a gigantic cacophony of noise happening - sounded like the radio & TV were blasting, children talking & playing, things bumping around, music, etc...
I knew I was having a lucid dream/o.b.e., so I looked down at my hand, which was laying on my sleeping cat, & tried to move it. I was able to lift my arm up only about 8", and even that required enormous effort. My goal was to actually get up this time, which I've never been able to do. I can only ever manage some jerky, uncoordinated movements.
I could see both my "astral" hand (or my dream hand, or subtle body hand, whatever you want to call it) moving around, and my "real" hand, still laying quietly on the cat. I moved my hand up and down, and reached out as far as I could a few times, trying to figure out how to get up.
The noise was getting louder, and I was suddenly paranoid that someone was in the room watching me. I had a flash image of my mom sitting on the end of the couch, staring directly at me. This has happened in at least 2 previous paralysis episodes, and scares the shit out of me every time! It's always my mom when she was 20 or so, too, with long straight hippie hair parted in the middle.
The presences in the room got to me, and I couldn't resist waking up any longer. Forced myself to move, and came out of it. I was still kind of hypnagogic though - it took about a minute for the noise and images to fade away.
Right before I woke up, I thought the kitty would surely be pissed off with all this noise and moving about. But after I woke, he was still sleeping as peacefully as before, so I know I was definitely not waving my arm around in real life.
Fuckin trippy!
