I'm better now.

Thanks for all of the kind words and offers of support, it was really appreciated. Sometimes life just piles up and you gotta dump all the shit somewhere or it'll eat you up. Ya know?

I turn 25 in six days. I know a lot of you will yell at me because you're older, but I don't like turning 25. It makes me feel old. It's all about perspective, huh? I'm no longer in my early twenties. And I feel like I haven't acomplished jack shit. Ah well. Those of you who wanna help me celebrate, check SGLA.

I'm done with my zookeeper job (it was only a summer thing), and while it was amazing, it was also frustrating at times. The animals were always super awesome, but the people and the way that place is run... ugh. But I already miss some of my favorite animals. A lot. In fact, resizing the following pictures and writing the descriptions made me cry. I became very attached, and here are some photos of my favorite animals. Of course I loved them all, but some really touched me. And there are a couple that I didn't get good pictures of. Of course, this is only a fraction of the pictures I took, and I'm sure I'll be posting more later.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

This is Cameroon. He is the gentlest, sweetest adult male lion ever. At feeding time he never went nuts like most of the other lions, he patiently waited and gently grabbed the meat piece by piece. I personally hand fed him his medication every morning and afternoon, and he always took it gently. He sometimes licked my hand while getting his meds, and it always made me smile.

Here is Sandora, one of the sweetest tigers I've ever met. Once she got to know me, she would come when I called her name. And she would've let me scratch her for hours if I would've had the time! I have one of her whiskers, and it's on my bathroom mirror. I will miss her so much.

I developed an enormous affection for bears while I worked there, and Kachina was one reason why. She's curious, very food oriented, and looooooves her pool. Her personality always made me laugh.

Look at this picture!! Cinnamon is Kachina's cage mate, and they are both such amazing creatures. Cinnamon is just a riot, playing and splashing in the pool and running at food time. And she always looks like she's smiling smile

I wish I had a better picture of Aisha, she's so beautiful. I will maybe miss her most of all. She is the greatest wolf ever! Every morning and afternoon at cleaning and clearing times, she would run to the fence when she saw me coming. Then she would fall against the fence, put her head down, and begged to be scratched. Impossible to resist. So I would bury my hand in her coat and give her a good scratching. Such a sweetheart.

Octi is another of the sweetest tigers. She always came over to say hi, and would chuff nonstop. She even chuffed at me at feeding time! There were times when trying to pull her scat out from the outide would be impossible, because she would come over and chuff and demand to be scratched. smile

Arianna is Sandora's cage mate. She is a beautiful Ligress, and extremely friendly. She gets jealous if Sandora is getting attention, and will barge over and come between you and Sandora. She got tons of good scratches while I worked there!

Huck is the sweetest and most bumbling bear ever. Hand feeding him snacks at the end of the day was always a highlight. No matter how hot he was, he would always get up and come over. He also likes baths. He has a sad story, but at least he can live the rest of his life in comfort.

Conan is an amazing lion. Always sweet and gentle. He's the only lion that allowed me to scratch him, even asked for it, and I buried my hands in his mane. Lemme tell you, my fingernails came out black! Lions manes can get pretty dirty!

Not only is Montana absolutely stunning to look at, he's an amazing tiger all around. I think he loves attention more than any of the other animals, except for Aisha. He would rush over, chuff, and beg to be scratched. I was always more than happy to oblige! He had a pool in his cage, and watching him play in it on hot days was the best thing ever. He also likes to get baths with water hoses smile

Those are most of my favorites, but there are a handful of others that I didn't get good pictures of. Maybe I'll write about them some other time.

I'm glad you are feeling better, Rox. Those are some amazing photos. I can't help but be jealous of your oppurtunity to be so close to such awesome animals. especially the wolves and big cats. but I'm glad you got to.
I'm not gonna yell at ya. the twenties seem to shoot by so quick. I'll be 30 in less than a year and I feel kinda like I'm where I should have been when I was about 23-25. *shrug*

wish I could be there to help celebrate your birthday! you better have fun!

I'm glad you're feeling better. Congratulations on finishing your internship. Keep in touch with those folks. Of the birthdays, I remember 25 and 29 as being kind of rough. I definitely sympathize. Oddly, 30 was easily one of my best birthdays ever. Chin up, I'll see you guys on party day.

It looks like you had the most amazing opportunity to have a relationship with those beautiful animals... I am more than a little jealous, I've always wanted to be close to a big cat.

I hope your birthday is fucking awesome to make up for the fact that you're unimpressed about 25.

You worked with lions, bears, tigers and wolves. Definitely something many people cant scratch off their list at 24!

I'm so fucking jealous of your summer job. All those animals are incredible to look at, but I'm bettin' that doesn't hold a candle to getting to know them. I think people who think animals don't have emotions and personalities should do that job for a few months. Bet it would change their minds!

When I turned 25 (not quite a year ago), I felt really shitty too. I felt I hadn't done anything, wasn't doing anything, and wasn't going anywhere. It kind of stuck me in a depressive phase, and I havn't really done anything since. Then it occured to me I was forcing myself into realizing my fears, and I'm starting to actually do something. What I'm saying is, let the negative things you're feeling right now point you in a positive direction. You're learning what you don't wanna be/do, so you're figuring out where you're supposed to go!

And it made me feel really fucking OLD!!! Quarter life crisis, I guess! biggrin

Love the feline pics- especially Montana.
Aaaaah.
The question to ask is not what have you acheived but are you happy?
If you're happy you've done well. If not you've got a long time left to get there! skull

I'm happy to hear you laughed. Don't stop.
I have a friend that is eight years older than I am. He told me that when you turn 25 that it all goes to Hell. Damn it if the night I turned 25 I didn't find myself sitting on a bucket in an alley revisiting a helluva lot of whiskey. Okay so maybe I drank too much and it had nothing to do with age. I'll say this though, I may not be able to knock them down like I used to, but I'm much happier with the wisdom I've gained.

Those animals are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us. smile

I think you've accomplished quite a lot. Of course, people say that about me too...it's hard to believe it sometimes, particularly if things are going crappy.
