Do you have a job (or grad school) lined up here?
Maryland isn't a bad place to live overall, the pluses and minuses really depend on which part you live in. The same applies to Virginia and Pennsylvania, and even DC itself, which is (mostly) a better place to live than it was 10 or 15 years ago. The weather is probably more humid than it usually gets in Ohio (I don't know how humid it gets in California), though we'll usually get less snow in the winter.
thanks for sharing your LA vacation with us. the grandparents look like amazing people! that chili must certainly be amazing. and tall and quirky is most certainly great.
Chicago was fun! Besides hanging with good friends, I spent a lot of time walking around the Wicker Park area, seeing some local bands and eating a lot of good food. i think you'd like a trip up there.
