ahh. so i am applying as a transfer to csu and ucs and although i know i have come a very long way in the past few years for returning to school and so on i realize i am trying to sabatoge myself! i am really trying to stop the cycle but it is very difficult. i suppose the fact that i realize my behavior is half the battle.

Anywayyyys......

I have been working like crazy and other than being able to work that party where i got to dress up i dont think i have time to be festive this year. it makes me a little sad.

are there any other history majors out in SG land?

behavioral awareness is a huge first step and perhaps even the hardest. the steps don't necessarily get any easier (they can but often don't) you seem to be in a better place to face them. Best of everything to you,

History MINOR, sorry. I love history but I love neuroscience even more.

If you're able to be responsible with work, I'm sure you'll be able to maintain focus on your studies.

Sabatoge how?

No history degree but a long history of self destruction/sabotage. I am my own worst enemy. Upsetting.

I was a history major at UCSC. I went there as a transfer student. Fun times.

Yeah, that is a tricky thing. Knownig what is right and doing it is a hard bridge to cross sometimes. Good luck to whichever way you go.

I graduated a few months ago with my BA. Right now Im going through a year and a half teacher certification program so that I can be a full time teacher in California.

My concentration in the major was history of the Americas. My favorite part about history is learning about how different groups of people lived. The history department at my college was big on social history so it was easy to find interesting classes.

What made you decide on history? It can be very boring at times. lol

One of my friends who was a history major is a teacher in another country. But he works as a kindergarten teacher because its the only job he could find where his gf lives. lol
I kind of limited myself so there are some things I dont know very much about. The closest thing I took to an economics class was US Labor history. I went to a liberal hippie school though so it was pretty one sided.
It kind of sucks now because to be a teacher I also have to know about politics and economics. Ive been having to study on my own to learn things.
Some of the teachers that I had at my junior college sucked. The ones at the UC I went to were mostly good. Even if they were not great teachers they usually knew their subject really well. I would definitely suggest going to the best college you can get accept to if you want to go to grad school.

Good luck with that and as you say, acknowledging a behavior is the first step in altering it.

I finally learned that if I have to work incredibly hard at something one or more of the following is likely true.

1. I am going about it the wrong way.

2. I do not have a clear understanding of the desired outcome.

3. I suck at this and I should focus my energies on something I am more effective at.

Self realizations are no different that general realizations, they just hit closer to home. If possible you need to be able to heed your own perceptions and make effective efforts to alter your own act. You can definitely do this.
