right now, i'm kind of procrastinating. i know i should get to work sewing, but i don't know what to make that would top the awesomeness of the last piece i did yesterday:

maybe you guys are tired of my sewing--TOO BAD. i love doing this shit, and have been doing it to the exclusion of other things, like hanging out with my friends (sorry friends). oh, and!! i made a coupon for my etsy shop in case any of my sg-friends would like to make a purchase!! my shop is here: dove grey dawn and the coupon code is sgirls, good for 10% off.

happenings this week in my world:
♥ had a really lovely supper party with lavonne and her gentleman. i made tortillas, fried faux chicken and salsas and she provided the strong-ass drinks.

♥ i sewed 10 or so pieces and watched the last half of season one of dexter, at the waterfront (young marlon brando! yum), machete (SO GOOD!! give me a piece of michelle rodriguez please and thank you) and the first few episodes of season one of buffy. did you guys know that dexter's girlfriend rita is a vampire on buffy? FOR REAL!! she's darla!!! and claire's loser boyfriend (six feet under) is in the first few eps of buffy, too. yes, i realise no one else cares about this shit, but i'm a nerd and i've been spending a lot of time alone with my cats. I HAVE TO TELL SOMEONE!

♥ yesterday i took my baby cat to the vet! his tooth was kind of messed up but the vet is really sweet and the problem was easily and cheaply dealt with. what a relief!

♥ i got a new job!! i'm going to be working lunchtimes at a busy downtown restaurant and dial it back to evenings and weekends at my current job. hopefully these jobs, combined with dove grey dawn, give me the financial stability i need to achieve my goals this year.

♥ set my heart on doing a summer art class at penland school of art & craft in north carolina. i want to do the last session on that linked page, sculptural felting. it's not terribly expensive ($1500ish, including flight, room, board & class) but it's after my planned moving date to vancouver. i have a few weeks to think about it and see if i could make it work. it's not directly related to the work i'm doing now with dove grey dawn but i think it could take me in new and exciting directions, not to mention how nice it would be to just take art classes.

♥ felt so sexy yesterday in my cardigan (ha!! always a nerd) and floral dress. no one saw me, but it wasn't for anyone else.

♥ this song has been in my head all. day. long. it's so appropriate for the coming (manufactured) holiday. i bet if you play this for your romantic partner, they will want to get down with you immediately. it's kind of a smooth love jam, if you know what i mean

do you have any valentine's day plans? i will probably be working at my new job. other than that, i expect to be sewing and hanging out with my cats. BEST EVER

You're so cute.

Way ahead of you on the Rita/Darla tip but we should watch some Buffy and Dexter when you get here just to make up for it.

I don't know, but faux fried chicken can't be better than real fried chicken wink.

I'm making Valentines with glitter and macaroni. Want one?

I'm cutting out a heart for you from construction paper as I write this.

I was being facetious. I adore Foundation's burger dish, so I have a love for vegan food. If you served your faux fried chicken with biscuits, you'll win me over.

I don't if you're vegan diet stops from milk, but buttermilk biscuits are the best thing to eat with fried chicken, faux or otherwise. I make them in my trusty cast iron skillet. I think they would go great with white bean gravy, which I love (my sister-in-law is vegan and she makes a mean white bean gravy). LOVE IT.

The first 2 are worth seeing even though the production values are low and cheese factor high. Major story development and the anchors of all the characters.

We shall watch when you get here!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup butter, melted and divided

Sausage Gravy:
1 pound Paula Deen Breakfast Sausage by Smithfield (either hot or mild)
3/4 cup flour
4 1/2 cups milk
1 tablespoon Louisiana Style hot sauce
1/2 tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons butter
Steps
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a large bowl mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cayenne pepper. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or two forks until crumbly. Gradually add milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Dough should be sticky. Do not overwork dough.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness with a floured rolling pin. Cut 12 biscuits with a 2 1/2-inch round biscuit cutter. Place biscuits in a cast iron skillet or hoecake pan that has been sprayed with a non-stick spray and brush tops with half of melted butter. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until lightly browned. Brush with remaining melted butter before serving.

While biscuits are baking, start gravy. In in large saute pan or cast iron skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly. Reduce heat to medium and add flour to sausage; mix thoroughly. Cook until flour browns, about 4 minutes stirring constantly. Add milk slowly and increase heat to medium-high. Continue to stir. Add hot sauce, pepper and salt. As the gravy comes to a boil, it will thicken. If too thick, add additional milk. After boiling, reduce heat to a simmer and add butter.

To serve place two of the buttermilk biscuits on each plate and top with sausage gravy and garnish with freshly cracked pepper.
