Because I love the middle ages, here is an elephant with a castle on its back. It's marginalia from the Chronica Majora.

I love learning about the middle ages because there's a distinct lack of factual basis for pretty much everything that went on.

according to medieval bestiaries, elephants represent Adam and Eve, for just like Adam and Eve before the fall, they feel no sexual desire. When elephants want to mate, they go to the east, near Eden, and eat the mandrake plant in order to inspire lust, just as Adam and Eve were inspired to hanky and panky by the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

distinct lack of factual basis.....that is what makes the middle ages rather charming, I agree with you.

.....and thank you again for the lovely card. (((((hugs)))))

I love how everything seems so magical and holy when really, it's just a bird or a piece of wood.

that's an elephant? i love it. lol

and yes, i have to leave jason for that guy. i'm a sucker for studded wrist cuffs and a man who can lay it right out on the line by having it emblazoned across a t-shirt. people who express themselves through words on shirts or funny t-shirt phrases are the sexiest types of people. who needs conversation?
