Hey guys. If you could do me a huge favor by reporting this photographer's page for racist, hate speech. I'd appreciate it.

She originally posted work using a First Nations/Native American headdress. When kindly explained why the photo could be considered racist, her response was "I don't give a shit."

To report her page you can follow these steps.

On the page's main pulldown menu:

Select report page, then continue

Then select "It shouldn't be on Facebook," then continue

Then select "Hate speech," as well as "Targets race or ethnicity" from the pulldown, then continue

Then hit the "Report to facebook" checkbox, (make sure you uncheck sending her a message) then continue

You can also flag her individual posts and images.

Please do not threaten her, tell her to "go kill herself" or any other hateful thing. That does not help. She has already expressed that any reasoning with her doesn't make a difference. Simply report her page, please.

The headdress thing was insensitive to me, but the actual racist responses she's replied with when called on it (some of which have been deleted before I could get screengrabs, unfortunately) are completely offensive. I would really appreciate it if you could report her. Here's the initial response on her tumblr.

Hmmm, seems like a bit of a stretch here. One could make the same claim about your "cyber bitch" set, if they didn't know you. Which I don't. Did you confirm the models in the shoot had no cultural reason to wear the headsets? And did you confirm that 'you people' meant something other than you and your followers?

I honestly do not know any of the parties involved here but this seems like a whole lot of nothing.

I did actually confirm that the model had no reason. The photographer confirmed that "It was just a prop," and just a "concept."

I don't disagree with you observation on the dreads, as well. Which is why I stopped wearing them and won't again. But Native American ceremonial headdresses used for props in photos is not a stretch for cultural appropriate.

Here's a breakdown, if you like.

Not the most informative analysis. And when it comes to culture, nothing is permanent. e.g. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/gnxp/files/2010/05/800px-Invasions_of_the_Roma.png

Right, nothing is permanent. Possibly, one day, when racism doesn't disenfranchise vast swaths of people, cultural appropriation won't be such a problem.. But the trials and tribulations of the First Nations people here in the United States is ongoing. It's not in some ancient time that doesn't really effect their modern quality of life.

I don't like the idea of censoring art, even when it is insensitive. I think we give things, concepts, words that hurt us more power with censorship. I am sorry but I can't report this person.
I think sandwave made some important points.
Lastly, maybe you could ask your fans to listen to your argument and make up their own minds, as opposed to doing you a favor. Encourage debate.

Sophia, I do understand your position. If it had been left to a debate on the art, I would have left well alone. But I don't take kindly to people who tell "Indian bitches" to fuck off. I would have more respect for the artist if they had a clear conceptual statement behind the work and defended that. But she's failed to make a point about her work, and instead lashed out hatefully. I don't think her page should be banned simply for taking bad pictures. I think her page should be banned for spreading hateful speech.

I don't see how debate is not encouraged when people are free to comment as you are on my blog, and I make my case while you make yours. If people blindly do what others say, then they are not learning. But fans? Really? I don't consider myself a figure that has fans. And nobody has blindly done my bidding for being a Suicide Girl (and no one should). I'm simply reaching out to a community where I know people who also fight against racism.

Reported. I also took the time to ask a friend of mine for her opinion on it- she's a co-founder for a NA non-profit (and of native blood herself), so I'll let you know her take on the situation.

That's great MisterSatan! I found out through an acquaintance of mine who simply comments/reblogs people's photos with "My ethnicity is not a costume." This photographer's reaction was just infuriating. Her very first response was "I don't give a shit about Indians and their casinos." But, as far as I know, my acquaintance isn't involved in a program formally. It would be great to hear from someone who is active.

Done. I wouldn't have done it if it weren't for her horrid response to criticism.

I do agree that the photographer in question should have shown a bit more understanding and accountability on her actions.

Her acting so defensively shows that she must have at least wondered at some point between creating the picture and posting it "Hmmm this might be racist a bit" and she should have checked.
