I have been to Daytona. It is a tourist town based on bikers, spring break, and the speedway. I have been to two races there, It is not the nicest beach around; I far prefer Ocean City, which is, in many ways, much the same, but the actual beach is nicer.

I know nothing about the beaches in South Carolina. I think SG staff photographer Scott Smalin (sp?) is from there.

Just spent a week at Daytona (originally from Central FL) and I'd say Daytona, hands down! Myrtle's good for golf, but Daytona is the beach!! When there, also check out New Smyrna Beach (about 20 mins south of Daytona) and Cocoa Beach (about 40 mins south of Daytona). If you're not thrilled I'll give you your money back!

Having been to both, I'd give the edge to Daytona if you're going strictly for the beach. There's a lot to do in Myrtle Beach, and it almost gets overrun by the strip going down the middle of the city (in my opinion). There's just a lot going on there.
